Engineering incentives.Follow

Hello, I am currently at 150 Engineering skill, and haven't been able to actually make much/any in-game money at all.

Just what incentives do I have of leveling Engineering? I plan on becoming Gnomish Engineering, and I've heard that is big money-sink.

I have read about the "Gnomish Death Ray," and that sounds nice, but it would not make me any gold.

I have looked over the "Skills in Engineering" page on this site to see everything that I would be able to synth - none of it seems too great except maybe one or two things. I am also currently a level 23 Mage Human.

So my question again: what incentives do I have to level engineering? I plan on PvP'ing a lot and if at all possible, I don't really expect to group with people very often.

Also: would "Goblin Engineering" be better-suited for me?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you.

It's very much worth it as it gives you 'crowd control' methods which are extremely useful. The Mind Control cap is great fun and will have one of the enemy team fighting for you. The Rocket Helmet is an awesome item for knocking one enemy out of the fight for 30 seconds. Bombs can be used for massive AoE damage and to interrupt spellcasting, stop runners or give you a head start if you need to flee. Rocket Boots will give an an advantage in getting somewhere fast in PvP. Trinkets like Goblin Dragon Gun, the Bomb Dispenser or Death Ray all deliver a nasty punch. Cooldowns become a non-issue as you can swap trinkets around between each fight. Other items provide healing, break polymorph, snare enemies with a net etc - all very useful.

As for making money, all tradeskills are a loss at your level. The primary moneymakers for you will be :

- Iron Grenades, depending on materials cost on your server you may be able to turn a profit selling these to vendor
- Thorium Shells, these are the high end consumable ammo for all gun users. Can be converted (free of charge) to arrows
- Green Lens. Sells well to disenchanters (guaranteed shard)
- End-game items like Flawless Arcanite Rifle, Arcanite Dragonling, Flame/Shadow Reflectors etc can command a high price *if* you can find buyers

Bottom line - engineering can be profitable and extremely useful.

Yeah, that's pretty much the only reason I chose engineering, adds those extra little things in pvp (: However, I think I got a bit carried away, hitting 225 at level 29, hrr
