I was just wondering how i should go about transmuting. Should i try to obtain the mats and sell the transmuted material? or do i offer my transmute services through the trade channel?
Also if someone can give me an idea of what fair prices are for which transmutes that would also be very helpful.

in my experience on my auction house charachter, i have seen many methods. 80% of the time people advertise the service for $. Other people, like me, like to buy the base item, transmute it ourselves, then sell the transmuted item for profit. (keep in mind this is a small profit)
Basically what you do is up to you. But if i were you i would sell the service. That way you dont have to find/buy the base item ;P.

So I get my 275 in Alchemy today, use up my scroll for Transmute Arcanite. Kind of funny given it's no use to me right then and there.
Then in the trade channel, someone's "WTB Arcanite Transmute". I send them a /w and we meet in front of the Bank in IF. He gives me his mats and a 10g charge I ask for the service. 20 seconds later, I hand him back his brand spanking new arcanite, and I walk away 10g richer.
Easiest 10g I ever made, and plan to do it again once the 2 day cooldown wears off. That's how you Transmute. IMO anyway.

If you can get the mats to make one arcanite to hold onto, I understand that it's useful to keep trades honest. You put an arcanite bar in your trade box, your partner puts the mats and the gold in his, trade straight up, then you transmute the materials and hang onto the bar for the next trade (two days later!) That way no one has to worry about their mats disappearing to a dishonest trader. (Hey, they do exist!)

Wow, 10G? They usually go for 4g on my server. Occasionally I've seen people asking for 5g, put I've never paid more than 4.

Law of supply and demand, back in Feb, I eazaly sold transmutes for 10 gold a pop, but then the blasted alchemtst started pop up.

This is very exesive,only somebody with a bad rep would need to go as far as to keep a arcane crystal in invintory, as most alchemst know, taking one is a instant no biz invintion, and that the only way to do transmutes after taking somebodys mats is to keep a spare. I am not implying that the poster has even takin anyboyds mats, just that it is .....exesive.

5g was the standard price on Shadowsong EU for an arcanite transmute, nowadays it's more like 3g so I've given up on doing it via tradechannel. Selling essences and arcanite on the AH provides a better margin now.
Keep in mind I play on the new(er) RP/PVP server where the economy is completely fucked right now. Stacks of herbs that normally go for 5-7 gold, go for 1-3. Hell Staff of Jordan is going for 150g. And it sells! Normally that piece of crap is 75g on a good day.
So I pretty much charge what the going rate is. 10g. Sure it could normally be 5g on an established server, but mines not established.
