Blacksmithing/mining troubleFollow

#1 Nov 23 2005 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 21 undead warrior and have 99 in mining and 76 in blacksmithing.I'm a little confused on what I should be going for now. I've checked the maps here for places in Hillsbrad Foothills for silver copper and tin. All where they showed it was supposed to be, but nothing was there.I've also read the mining guide and even though it helped a little bit, it did not really mention these questions concerning mining/blacksmithing.

I've bought all the recipes I think I can get right now so I have a few questions

1: What recipe of blacksmith should I use to quickly lvl my blacksmithing while still keeping in my mining lvling?

2: Where could I find the minerals and items to make that recipe?

3: At what lvl should I start selling stuff on AH? and what should I start selling on it?

4: Being that I'm only a lvl 21 at what lvl should I really start lvling blacksmith and mining because I'm finding that trying to find tin and copper and whatnot in those places and not trying to die is getting harder. I've heard that the yeti cave has many minerals (is this true?) but the yeti's are lvl 30 so I'd have to wait for that.
In other words, at what lvl char is a good lvl to safely mine and lvl my blacksmithing and should I wait till that lvl? because it might turn out to be quicker.

Thanks for all the help.

I don't have a horde character so my advice will be limited. As for what you should make, make whatever guarantees a skill-up and uses the least amount of materials. You may be better off making three items that are yellow since you'll probably get two skills, instead of a single orange item. Also consider the vendor price for items since it's hard to make money at AH with lower level items. I find I'm better off sending them to my enchanter alt to dis-enchant and then selling the dusts/shards.

You should also get a mod that keeps track of AH prices to give you an idea of what to make. Not much of my stuff is selling for a profit and I'm at 200 in smithing. You need to consider the AH fee, too, so it may be better for you to sell or disenchant instead than to list the same item 2 or 3 times before it sells.

Before you buy a recipe it might be good to check allakhazam to see how costly in terms of materials it will be. If you need 2 Jades, 2 Heavy Leathers, plus ores, will it be worth making? Possibly but you'll skill up faster and cheaper with other recipes. I tend to make lots of bracers and gloves since they give you skill and use the fewest mats.

As for mining, you may just be on at a busy time. On my server, high-levels who'd decided to skill-up in mining made it very hard for me until I started logging on late at night, just to mine. As a rogue I could sneak all over Darkshire (so could you if you're not an a PVP server), and there was a lot of ore, copper, tin, silver, and even gold and iron. 1000 Needles is also great, but risky if you don't aren't able to handle critters there or stealth past them.

Those 2 locales took me from about 40 to close over 150 in a short time in mining. With the mats I mined I levelled my smithing at the same pace and still made money selling extra copper and tin ores. On my server, the ore sells for more than bars, so I don't smelt it. The only materials I ever buy are leather or an agate or something if I run out, I never need to buy ore. Hope this helps. Most starting areas are heavily mined but it gets easier at high levels, I always find thorium nodes untouched when my herbalist priest is running around.
