Fishing: is 300 the cap because.....Follow

Is 300 the cap on fishing skill?

I am 300 and when I try to fish in eastern plaguelands it tells me "Skill Not High Enough".

If not the cap, where do I go to advance (obviously I've seen Nat)?
If it is the cap, why can't I fish in EP?

I've read Sticky and other posts til my eyes are bleeding....

I'm Priest Horde lvl 58.

Thanks for the help

Same with skinning. I was in UBRS where a dragonkin required skinning 310. So you just have to get better equipment to fish/skin at those places. For fishing it is easy to apply lure, then you can fish there.

The answer was encrypted in the Trade Skill Sticky ;-)
For the extreme fisher... try Azshara. There are spawns in the area, like fish pools, but for elemental water. Fishing in these gives very high yield rates for elemental water, globes of water, and (the big one) Essence of Water. There are only one or two spawns at a time, but they are in static locations (out of 6 possible locations). You need 300 fishing + lures to try here; I think 400+ to keep fish from getting away.
Sorry, not very direct; I will change that (rate up for pointing it out, and I'm sorry for my oversight!).

Yes, fishing is odd, like skinning as EelkeH mentioned. Both can go over 300 sill, and NEED to, in order to get rarer stuff.

Let me update the Sticky; when I do, it'll have the information you need!

To get Skill higher than 300:
1) use a lure.
2) use a better fishing pole.
3) get +fishing gear from the Fishing Extraveganza.
4) get +fishing enchantment put on gloves.

But is +2 to fishing really worth taking up a pack slot for? I have no idea why it’s not at least +5 like the other profession enchants. *sigh*

If you really want to enjoy fishing in high level zones, I would suggest getting started by buying/farming a better fishing pole.

1) Alliance and Horde (Big Iron Fishing Pole):
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=6367

You can get lucky and get this pole on the first trap you open. Or you could be opening traps for a week and still not see it drop. It’s a random drop, emphasis on random. They can sell for 20+ gold in the auction house.

2) Alliance and Horde (Arcanite Fishing Pole):
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=19970

This is one of the rewards you can pick for winning the fishing contest each Sunday. I’d pick the trinket first, it turns you into a fish, but this is very nice as well.

3) Horde Only (Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000)
http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=19022

This is a horde quest reward for killing the level 50 turtles on the beach of Desolace.

Once you have a good fishing pole you can then look at buying bait. You can add bait to regular fishing poles as well, but your fishing skill obviously won’t be as high. The best bait you can get adds 100 to your fishing skill for five minutes. This is the Aquadynamic Fish Attractor. They can sometimes be bought off of the same fishing supply NPCs that sell regular lures, but they are limited supply only. Engineers with 150 skill can also make these lures (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=6533).

With 300 fishing skill, a +20 fishing pole and +100 lures you will still find some fish getting away from you in places like the Sea of Storms. But its doable. Plus, now you can fish up special fish during the turniment on Sundays and get a few plus fishing items, like the lucky fishing hat, that will give you +5 to fishing. (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=19972) All added together you should be able to fish anywhere.

I tried posting this yesterday, but allakhazam is all gltichy. Here is the Trade Skill Sticky's new information, complete with links :-D

Q. (Tamisch basically wrote this) Whoa, hold up a second! I tried fishing in the Eastern Plaguelands with 300 skill, and it said I wasn't skilled enough. Do I have to boost my stats somehow?

A. Yup. Despite the general rule of thumb I listed above, you actually need a higher skill sometimes... even higher than 300. In Azshara, as I mentioned, you need 400 or so skill to fish reliably! So, here's some links to helping you boost your skill:

Rods:
A fishing pole is the basic. It has no skill added to it, and is sold by general vendors in lowbie areas.
A Strong Fishing Pole is a limited sale from many vendors. It has +5 fishing skill. The easiest vendors to think of are Old Man Heming in Booty Bay (he sells the 150-225 book as well), or random vendors in all (I think) the main cities.
A Big Iron Fishing Pole is a great item that can be maddeningly frustrating to get. It has a 1% chance to be looted from shellfish traps off the coast of Desolace, near Shadowprey Village (Horde town).
The Blump Family Fishing Pole (Alliance only) is from a Darkshore quest. It has +3 fishing skill... worthless, especially compared to the Horde's...
Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 (Horde only)... an awesome fishing pole with +25 skill. This is quested, and used to be the brest rod until the fishing tournament brought around the...
[link=http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.ht...70]Arcanite Fishing Pole. With +35 skill, this baby tops the list. It is won from fishing tournament.

Armor:
Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots. These are from a rare fish caught during the fishing tournament, and they have +5 fishing skill.
Lucky Fishing Hat is another rare-fish find. Trade it in to get the hat ^_^ +5 skill on this too.

Others:
High Test Eternium Line replaces the line on your rod with a +5 fishing skill line (a permanent buff, like an enchant, only for fishing lines). This stacks with lures, and is from yet another rare fish.
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Fishing enchants your gloves for a whopping +2 fishing skill!... woo-hoo...?

Lures - temporary buffs that last for either 5 or 10 minutes and increase your fishing skill. Right-click the lure, then right-click onto your fishing rod. It is placed on it much like oil/grinding stones are:
Bright Baubles: Increases fishing skill by 75 for 10 minutes. Most fishing vendors (outside of newbie areas) have these.
Aquadynamic Fish Attractor: Increases fishing skill by 100 for 5 minutes. Most higher fishing vendors sell these at limited quantities, and engineers can make them.
Aquadynamic Fish Lens (Alliance only): Increases fishing skill by 50 for 10 minutes. Quested for the Alliance in Auberdine.
Nightcrawlers: Increases your fishing skill by 50 for 10 minutes. Drops off all sorts of undead with flesh. Also sold by vendors.
Flesh-Eating Worms: Increases fishing skill by 75 for 10 minutes. Drops off Rotted Ones (23-26) in Duskwood.

Those are most of them. With these items, you can (somewhat) easily boost your skill into the necessary level range for WPL/EPL/Azshara fishing. I believe the highest amount of fishing skill you can get is 452 (Arcanite Rod + Eternium Line + hat + boots + enchant + Aquadynamic). Also, did you know there is a vendor who sells fishing supplies in Silithus? Fun facts.
