Dropping skinning what should i do?Follow

#1 Aug 12 2006 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
As my main character (level 14 [don't laugh i don't play alot]undead Mage) does skinning/tailoring and i want to drop skinning. What would be a good Trade skill, besides enchanting that would get me alot of Money and is easy to skill up. The reason i dont want to do enchanting is the another one of my characters(level 14[once again don't laugh its a serious problem]Night Elf Hunter) is doing enchanting/tailoring and i want to experiment with different proffesion with tailoring.

thanks to everyone that may reply.

cheers

Mining will probably make more money than skinning, especially at the beginning of the game, as copper ore/bars sell for much more than light leather/leather scraps.

For your first character I would advice you to have two Gathering Skills. Herbalism, Skinning or Mining. The thing about Skinning, is that it does not require you to have a tracker on. (Tracking works so that when you track herbs they show on your minimap, same with mining nodes). So either you could choose Mining/ Herbalism, and have to switch trackers once in a while, (only one tracker can be active at any one point) or you could choose mining/skinning or Herbalism/Skinning.

This will enable you to track the herb/mining nodes at all times, without worrying about missing nodes of the other kind.

The reason for having two gathering skills on your first character is that crafting professions rarely make you much money in the first levels. Even when you reach skilllevel 300 at your crafting skill, it still takes alot of money to MAKE money. Gathering skills cost you nothing, and makes you a decent profit. This is necessary for you if you want to have an easy time on the AH, and with vendors. There are alot of things that will cost you alot of money, and if you blow it all on a Crafting Profession, you will sit there broke.

Do not under any circumstance think that Enchanting is much of a moneymakers craft until it hits 300. And still then it is an expensive craft. Not recommended at all for your first character unless you plan on just disenchanting items and selling the shards/dust you get from them.

Hope this helps

I love crafting in the many MMORPGs I’ve played. Even if the professions don’t make me money, I like being able to make things. That having been said, I agree with NorthAI. Two gathering professions are the easiest way to get yourself established on a server.

I would recommend skinning and mining at the starting levels. Skinning will give you a small but steady income. If you are already killing tons of mobs that can be skinned, you may as well make a bit more money by skinning them. I tend to vendor the scraps and light leather, though you may with to try to sell the light leather for a bit more on the auction house. Then medium leather can be sold for a small but reasonable price in the auction house.

Mining is harder to level up than any other gathering skill; at least once you’re past the copper stage. But copper is very common and it’s almost criminal how much you can sell it for. A stack of copper bars sells for a gold on several servers I’ve played on. That’s good money for that level.

Later on metals like mithril don’t sell as well and the higher end metal nodes are often heavily camped. So once you feel you are well enough established with equipment and a nest egg, you may wish to switch professions. You could take up herbalism, for example, or two entirely different professions. But I would suggest sticking with skinning and mining until you get your mount.

Of course, if you would enjoy the game more by taking other professions then by all means do so. But if you’re looking for one of the better ways to make money early on, two gathering skills is a good way to go.
