I'll try to make sure I put as much information in here as possable, so that you can get the best perspective I can give. I've been going nuts trying to figure this out, so some unbiased opinions would be very helpful I think.
Basic stuff first I guess, I'm going to be a hunter, and i'm going nuts with picking between three professions in the expansion. I've been using http://www.thottbot.com/beta?t=Alchemy thottbot as a guide for how professions are going to be setup after the expansion is released, and it's driving me nuts with the choices. And the reason this is getting to me is I'm trying to pick professions for my main.
Jewelcrafting: I love shinies, plain and simple. In every single MMO i've ever played that had the option available, I've always with no question done jewelcrafting. It's fun for me, I love crystals and gemstones in real life, I've collected them for years, and this was originaly a no-brainer choice for me. But...after looking through recipes, I'm not really sure just how useful this profession is going to be for a hunter vs the others.
Engineering/Leatherworking: I tend to enjoy soloing unless I happen to be grouping with people I know (PUGs have scarred me for life >>). I am also one of those people who HATE to spend ANY money at all unless I have to, so even if it slows my leveling down, I almost never purchase any weapons or armor under any circumstances unless i'm getting trashed by the mobs I'm leveling on. Leatherworking provides armor for me, but the end-game recipes so far seem to be more geared towards Shaman, but i'm unsure about that (as i've never had an end-game character). Engineering has lots of fun little toys and useful items, and above all, has the Goblin Jumper Cables, which alone would be a reason for me to take engineering as a character who can fein death, and also I can make some killer guns/scopes/armors. About the only problem is I tend to dislike how self-destructive engineering tends to be >.>
The problem basicaly seems to run down to, which would I have more fun with? Now normally I would have to answer that myself, but here's why I need help. Jewels I love, a lot. Shinies forever :P but...I tend to get the most enjoyment from a game based on how well I can solo the game, and i'm not really sure jewelcrafting would provide nearly as much gear for a solo character as leatherworking or engineering would. I really do want jewelcrafting, but I'm not seeing much in there that a hunter would really have that couldn't be outdone by items in engineering or leatherworking, but...they're shiny :P
Yea, I'm making a big deal out of basicaly nothing, but I would still appreciate some opinions on the idea if you don't mind taking the time to post. Thanks in advance :)
