Oh, you are already level 300+ at 50. It'd be a pity to drop it now. Have you looked at all the high level patterns? Are you sure there aren't anything you want to make. I've heard there are quite a few good patterns for hunters.
Anyway, just skin to make money. I'm not a skinner or a leatherworker, but people here keeps saying that knothide leather sells for a lot of gold. Also, if you are not a leatherworker, you won't be able to make that gold since you get knothide scraps a lot in the outland. You also need leatherworking to make heavy knothide leather, which sells for even more gold.
Also, I don't think mining is the most profitable gathering profession. I actually think disenchanting is. (I make money with disenchanting, but I actually do enchants unlike some disenchanter here :) Nothing is easier than browse AH, bid, quit game, come back next day to check mail box, click disenchant button, put back up on AH for easy gold.
Mining and herbing just sounds too much work. I have herbalism, but I don't gather herbs for money, only for the pots I need. I found mounting up and doing herb runs too troublesome. Rather spend quality time in WoW on something more fun. (Ok, I do sell the herbs if I get more than a full stack of 20, so I know it's not uber profitable).
