Fishing after the patchFollow

Hmm, I'm trying to get my fishing skill up - I have been waiting for this patch to do this. The timer being only 20 seconds is very nice, but I have a problem with it. Very often, perhaps one time in three casts, the fish will catch at the very end of the timer, and as the bubble (or whatever it is called) disappears at almost the same time, I cannot click it fast enough or I click too early (yes, my reflexes are not very good). I don't get a 'fish-got-away' message or anything. I have only succeeded at catching a fish here one time. It is rather annoying, and I'm taking at least as long as pre-patch to level my skill. Does anybody else have this problem?

The new patch has the bobber hit at the end of the timer even if no fish is on.

You're not doing anything wrong.

That doesn't sound like the "guaranteed catch" I inferred from the patch notes.

Someone mentioned this in the main forum thread about issues with the patch. This is the response I posted there.

I wrote:
I've had this happen a number of times, all when the bite comes right at the end of the timer, and I think the problem is related to the 'Fishing' buff you now gain while fishing.

If you check your combat log while fishing, you'll find that you gain Fishing when you start, and lose Fishing at the end of the timer. What I think is happening is this - the timer runs out as the bite happens, so I right click, but by that time I haven't got Fishing anymore, so I am unable to interact with the lure.

I hope it can be changed so you retain Fishing for a second after the timer ends. I'd also like to see the Fishing buff removed from the list of buffs that are displayed when you get them, if you have the right UI settings enabled.

I think this must be a glitch. Otherwise, the revamp is worthless. We're still having non-catches on occasion. Now, the only difference is you get to hear the sound of the bobber and waste time trying to click on it, instead of the timer just disappearing. Hopefully, it gets fixed.

This is what I got in my mail after I opened ticket for bug report on fishing.

And yes, its very annoying indeed.

I noticed that if you can manage to click the bobber the very instant it bobs, then you'll still get a fish.

It takes some timing, but it's not so hard once you realize that it will *always* bob as the timer runs to the end. So just watch the timer if it doesn't bob before that.

When I raised a ticket, the response I got was somewhat different.

The problem can't possibly be with the patch so it must be at your end. Try removing your mods and playing the game naked.

Still, if it's being looked into, that's good enough for me.

For people with lag, like yours truly, just click the bobber at around 1 second before the bar ends. I'm getting my fish more often than not.

Yeah I figured that but since I like to chat and muse or just daydream while I fish I am very dependant on that "splash" sound in my fishing. And when I hear it now its already too late.

For someone who had 375 fishing before she even got to Outlands this news is bad news.

well befor the patch when ever I did get a bite when the timer was almost out.. you still had 1 to 3+ seconds to catch the fish.. but now.. as soon as the timer runs out you are SOL on getting it.. if you ask me.. I liked it better the old way.. WTG.. they fixed the long fishing timer.. just in turn to make another one

There is a fish every time. I trigger by watching the countdown timer when the fish don't hit til the very end. I have gotten good enough that I catch something at the end of the cycle at least 4 out of 5 times

Fishing seems to just suck no matter what Blizz does. Methinks it needs a serious overhaul. Not entirely sure what COULD be done with it, but I'm fairly certain somebody at Blizz could think of something...

Also, that note from the GM about the problem "not possibly being due to the patch"... Well, of COURSE it couldn't be the patch, because we all know, Blizz is perfect. They're perfect, and we just ***** their creations ALL up. All these bugs that have been occurring, that's all us, and the "hotfixes" are just Blizz hacking our machines and fixing them on an individual basis. /sarcasm

That GM needs to be duct taped to a tree and slapped with a big dead green fish...

Fishing does not sucks.
The buff fishes are needed to raid.
Crawdads for tanks, and fish sticks for healers, mudfishes for hunters and more.

No there isnt.
I get "no fish are hooked" messages just the same as I was getting them before the patch. I can let the timer run off or click at the last sec, I still get same % of no hooked fish as before.

I fish a lot. I had 375 fishing at level 55. I have 374 cooking skill too. I am using my fish not for raids but for everyday farming and I am supplying all my friends with every kind of fish food.
I spend at least an hour every day fishing because it relaxes me. I love fishing.

So I think I am pretty competent to say there is not a bite every time. All they did with this last patch changes is to force me to pay more attention to my bobber and have less daydreaming and chatting around what made fishing so attractive to me.

Hmmm... I don't know, I never had the patience to level fishing before so with the patch I thought what the heck, Ill try it another time, knowing that there is a bit of gold to be had from certain kinds of fish. And also some free alchemy stuff of my Druid friend if I just supply him with the fishies. :D

I don't know if it's due to me not being as impatient anymore, but I find that levelling my fishing is now more fun and quicker than before. I get a fish about 8 out of 10 casts.

I do have the problem with fish hooking at the end of the timer and me not racting quick enough to catch it though, but I do trust it is something that developers are working on. It was obvious to me that some bugs would be introduced with the last patch since there was a whole lot of changes being made, and this is one of a few I have seen, but I just live with it trusting it to be fixed in a few weeks.

Might have to do with the fact that I manage to bug even a simple little java script at times so I kind of imagine it to be hard work trying to code a game keeping everything working smoothly! :P
