what's your sales pitch? (enchanting)Follow

I've sat in town spewing messages on the trade channel, trying to sell some enchants (just to get the skill point), but I'm not getting much response. I'm enchanting from 330 to 340 (so I can do the weapon major spellpower enchant that's sitting in my bank).

I hope that a new sales pitch will help. Please share how you sell your enchants. For example, do you shift-click the name of the enchant into your message or do you say something like "Shield +15 Stamina"? Do you advertise your price? Do you flood the channel with a 5-line paragraph of all your enchants? Do you whisper people individually?

I don't normally sell enchants (there isn't much money to be had, that way). I sell mats. WHen I do have a bunch of mats for a high-end enchants up on the AH, I will put out a message on the trade channel

- <high-end enchant> FREE with your mats

Then they can go and buy mats at the AH. Quite often, they are mine, and my profit is made. If the customer can't afford the mats, then he can't afford the enchant.

Well, its true that you do have to do enchants to skill up. Enchanting is such a fascinating tradecraft to me, but it sure is expensive. Disenchanting is where the action is.

When I do offer enchants on the public trade channel, as opposed to doing them for guildies, I try to keep the message short. A good sales pitch should capture your potential customer's attention quickly by getting right to the point. Most people do not have the time to read a wall of text, so I wouldn't post "a 5-line paragraph."

Shift-clicking is a good idea because that saves words and those interested will click to find out more information.

There is other important information you need to include though. I recently saw someone open a lock box "for free" and then get angry when the customer would not tip. If its free, its free (now there's a concept!). Asking for a tip after advertising its free, and then getting angry when you don't get one, is going to result in people avoiding you before long. If you are willing to take your chances with a tip, advertise it as "no fee, tip optional." But then you are leaving it up to the customer who may be cheap or naive, resulting in a poor tip. If you want a certain amount for your enchant, advertise your fee.

Having the customer buy the mats is a good idea I picked up from OMG, who posted above me. It keeps them from arguing with you about the price, and it allows you to make a profit if you do the enchant for free and they buy the mats you listed on the AH. And even if they don't buy your mats, doing it this way avoids the inevitable arguments from customers who think you are overcharging them for the mats.

Finally, if its a slow time on the trade channel its easy to spam consecutive adverts. Don't do that. People seem to get angry by that and you don't want an angry customer base. Wait until your post disappears from the chat window and send another.

So, keep it short, avoid misleading information, and don't spam the channel with consecutive ads.

<insert enchant here> FREE with MY MATS, Only 5 left. I'm on the AH bridge in IF.

That pretty much sums it up. The way I see it, I could do my own piece 5 times, or I can make someones day.

I found out something great!!!! Buy lesser magic essences from vendor in IF at the enchant trainer near FP. They are about 7.5s apeice. When you get enough, make a couple Greater Magic Essences and sell them in AH, I just sold 3 for 1.25 gold, that as not a wodnerful prophet, but it is and it is very easy!!!

All I do is put a macro with the type of enchants (not the recipe). If ppl interests, they'd send me tell and ask for mats list.

I found the best way to raise enchant skill is not try to sit and sell enchants. Think about it as investment. You spent the money upfront but getting plenty at the end. I wouldn't say enchant is the best profit skill but at least it makes myself and my friends happy and occasionally get a great tip (250g tip on mongoose!)

Not being an enchanter, but a customer, I'd say use the links that describe the spell and lists what the mats are, rather than the link to the enchant itself. They appear as [Enchanting: Major Whatever]. That way I can see what the mats are before I come and bother you.
