Tailoring and Skinning or Herbalism and Alchemy. I'm picking between those two and i don't know which to choose.

Ordinary Mages pick Enchanting/Tailoring, but at the begining try enchanting/mining for money and then drop mining and get tailoring or just get mining/skinning for money and then drop both and get enchanting/tailoring.

Tailoring is a money loser (yes, even paired with enchanting!). Sell the cloth to the losers who think they can make more money by making bags. Or, better yet, use the cloth on a useful skill - First Aid.

Yes, I know that I'll have those tailor/enchanters frothing at the mouth with my remarks, but it's true. You can pick up those tailored green items for disenchanting at the AH for less than what the cloth would have brought.

Alchemy - the same applies. Plants will bring in more gold than potions.

if it's just between those two set, i'd go with tailor/skinner. skinning makes lots of gold. tailoring has awesome purples (but the gear is too little too late prior to 375)

my lvl 42 mage alt is tailor/miner. i've made enough gold to have my lvl 40 mount & training, yet i still have over 100g on me

As others have said it truly depends on if you want to make money or craft your items. If you want to make money I recommend mining/herbalism and skinning. Enchanting is still very expensive to level, especially if this is your first character.

I leveled tailoring/enchating to about 300/225 before dropping both of them *gasp* and picking up mining/skinning to make some money. It netted me a lot of money, especially for my epic mount and later my flying mount. I do not recommend leveling a crafting profession before 70 unless you have a nice nestegg saved up from another character.

I have tailor/mining on my alt. While he has had a bit of help from my main, he has made some 44g by himself so far, by selling ore and not buying cloth. Ok, so my tailoring isn't very high (126 at lvl 25), but on the other hand, I do have a lot of gold. I don't expect to wade in money while levelling it up, but the income from mining should offset the expenses of tailoring, especially when you get as many of the items needed yourself. The big plus of tailoring is all the great BoP purples that you can make.

Fishing is a really good skill for tailors - if you fish in the pools, especially the flotsam pools, you will very often get chests with bolts of cloth and skins of all grades.

i've been playing for about a month now but i know on day 4 of playing i had 16 gp thanks to mineing and AH i am now lvl 29 and havent seentaht much since b/c i'm LW and skinning but my alt mage is mineing/enchanting i'm just waiting for my copper to sell hehe. figure i can buy the gear and enchant it and you can always pick up greens to disenchant for under 75 sp so you can sell copper bars 1.25 gp to 2 gp depending on greed and market so not taht bad and if you solo or do alot of dungons you will lvl it ok.

Absolute truth, and the main reason why you shouldn't take it until you've gathered enough gold to power-level it to the point where you can create your own purples. That means at least L58 (so you can get to the outlan trainers).

I agree completely. I would take two professions that can get you a lot of gold in the bank up until your mid-60s or so. After you reach that point spend the money on things that you need (your epic mount, and normal mount at 70). After you have done that drop the profession that doesn't pick up as much money for you and pick up tailoring or whichever other profession is there to help you (although some do not make sense to pick up like alchemy/leatherworking/blacksmithing/jewelcrafting without having a gathering profession to support it).
