Okay, so I'm an Undead lvl 10 Priest right now :)

I know I'm going to go into Tailoring, what should my second profession be?

The gathering professions are great for money but enchanting is a nice choice also since it doesn't need a gathering profession and there are some rather nice enchants, so it really depends on what you want to go for. Also there are now things that are equivalent to BoP recipes for enchanting specifically the high end ring enchants. The choice is really up to you.

Ask yourself why you are going into tailoring.

1. It's a money-losing profession. Cloth sells for more than items you make.
2. It uses mats that are better sold or used in levelling First Aid.
3. If you're thinking about using it to make stuff for yourself, see 1. (above). You can buy items for less than the cost to make them.
4. If you're thinking about those yummy L70 purples, then you should wait until you are high enough to make them and change to Tailoring then.

My advise is three (yes, 3) gathering professions. Choose two of the following: Skinning, Herbalism, Mining. Then add in Fishing.

I completely agree. Leveling tailoring while you level your professions will be a pain in the ***, you will be making very little (if any) money which will be necessary for you to buy the necessities as you go along (your mount at 40 100g, epic mount at 60 600g, flying mount at 70 1000g, epic flying mount 5000g, etc) and that is just mounts.

Pick up Skinning + Herbalism/Mining and fishing. Put all of the stuff that you get on the AH while are you are questing/leveling and reap the benefits.

If you decide to not lvl up tailoring though just sell the cloth. As a priest the bandages really aren't that useful and the money gained from selling the cloth is more valuable. This is of course assuming your not shadowformed since if I recall correctly you can't heal then, but otherwise your heals should be more then enough. Hope that helps.

Bandages are most useful when you are oom. It means that you can still heal even when you can't cast healing spells. If you don't try to maximize your First Aid, you are doing yourself, your guild, and anyone you group with a disservice.

Errrrrrrrm... Well, I already chose Tailoring, so that sucks :(

Why'd they gimp the Tailoring profession so much?

This is really my only character, so I think I'm going to make Enchanting my 2nd profession.

They didn't gimp Tailoring. At all. All we're saying is that it is much harder to make money while leveling with Tailoring as one of your professions. Tailoring doesn't really shine until you get past skill 300. So, you're better off taking gathering professions for now and changing to tailoring later on.

If you want to drop a trade skill, open your skills window and click on the tailoring bar. There will be a little red icon that you can click to unlearn tailoring.

My advice? Don't take enchanting on your first character either unless you are willing to learn how to treat enchanting as a gathering skill. Take skinning and mining/herbalism. It will make your first character a lot more fun because you will be able to afford all your skills and your mount when the time comes.

Totally agree with all that was said here. If you have a little cash on you from gathering and putting stuff up on the AH, you will have all you need for learning your talents and some occasional gear. Don't go crazy buying blues you will quickly outlevel. You can spend all you make, but don't.

Regarding tailoring, you can level any tradeskill pretty fast once you are a higher level. I switched to tailoring and leveled to 350 in 2 days. I enjoy trying different strategies to make money. Lately I've dusted off my enchanter and started to de some cheap greens from the AH for profit.

Good luck. Just realize that you will spend hundreds to level a non-gathering tradeskill, either by buying the mats, or by not selling those you farm. That's a lot easier to do when you can afford it.

if holy priest, take enchanting. i make a ton of gold from disenchanting, which is good because i can't farm mats efficiently.
#11REDACTED, Posted: Jun 29 2007 at 6:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) But if you got the money I would go Tailoring.I did around lvl 8 and now I am always having 30g and a 200 Tailoring skill.I had around 200g from main to give to me!!!Or you can always buy Gold.I personally wouldnt give up Tailoring for anything.I did Enchanting cause you can make Valuable weapons to desenchant for more enchanting supplys.IF YA GOT GOLD GO TAILORING AND ENCHANTING IF YA DIRT POOR GOD SKINNING AND LEATHERWORKING.

Um... no. Buying gold is against the terms of service. You may not get caught, banned, and lose your account, but you could. It is also cheating and takes away not only the value of things you buy but the pride in earning it.

Stupid advise. But then again, what do you expect from someone that advises you to buy gold? Leatherworking is also one of those trades that is a money loser. Even more of a money loser than tailoring, in my opinion. This is advise from someone who knows how to spend gold, rather than make it.

Mybe this is just on my server, but I have no problem selling dark leather tunics for 80 silver each. A stack of medium leather sells for 50 silver. I can make 5 dark leather tunics amd sell them for 4 gold, while buying the leather for around 1 gold. Leatherworking also makes a lot of greens that you can disenchant. I can make my own blues and greens in LW, saving me even more money and time not having to buy them from the Auction House or running instances. Once again, this may just be my server. But, I also have skinning and don't usually buy leather. I wouldn't suggest you take LW because you can't wear leather as a priest, and you really don't start making money until you get it past 100, and unless you have skinning it'll just waste money. People suggest you go for 2 gathering professions to make money if this is your first character. As long as you don't spend your money on upgrades you'll only use for a few levels, or for enchants, you should be fine moneywise. Pick professions you enjoy, are useful, and will make you some money.

I'm a priest and I've got minning and jewelcrafting. Though, I didn't need to get tailoring-- my fiance is a tailor and makes me anything I want, while I supply him with greens and blue jewelery to disenchant.

But, the most common choice to go with for tailoring is enchanting. I also have a warlock that has tailoring and minning. The gathering profeesion makes me my money that I would otherwise be lacking.

i personally went herb/skinning till 70, made lots of money, then at 70 i dropped herbing for tailoring. have made tons of money from skinning, but now that ive bought everything i need tailoring-wise, im debating going enchanting now instead of skin. so we'll see. i prolly should get more monies first tho ;)
