all the games that have lumberjacking/chopping trees don't get rid of the trees at all. they remain as part of the permanent graphics of the area. but you "take away logs" from the tree, either by a chopping action or in the case of WoW, a clickable action (like mining node) that will initiate a chopping animation.
Yup, it would not remove a tree at all, it would be just like a node. In FFXI there are some areas that you can't chop wood (Dunes, it's all sand) just like blasted lands and desolance would be.
In WoW I think it'd be easier with a 'Tracking Lumber' or w/e they would call it.
I'm sure there would be some sort of non-weapon synths too. Maybe some types of traps? In ffxi they even made some foods lol don't ask me.
Only problem with arrows is that the NPCs sell pretty darn good, cheap arrows. Even the honor special arrows you can buy from outlands are just a small bit better than normal NPC ones. Also, the ammo that's rarely in the AH I've personally never thought of buying. It's only 200 and usually cheap.. but such a PITA to swap out... even with Outfitter.
Staffs and wands would be nice, maybe some low level trinkets, since there is a lack of those. If they ever do add a profession, that's prolly going to be at the top of the list IMO, since other MMORPS have it already even LOTR have it, and that's a newer one.
