Lumbering/Woodcrafting a good idea?Follow

If they set special and much smaller trees in the game the u can chop down would that be a efficient way to add a new pro?

Yes, this has been beaten to death here but as you're new I guess you haven't seen the other threads.
It's the only viable option I can see and has been suggested many times on the o boards.

actually about 95% of the topics that are posted are pretty much beating a dead horse. The only real posts that are not generally deal with wow current events (patch list, etc).

The problems with this:

- The only people who can use the forum search feature are premium users (unless that has changed).
- I have found the search feature to be pretty subpar on these boards.
- The large influx of new users are generally not going to sign up and become premium members off the bat, do not read the FAQ sections, or just decide to post their own thread without taking the time to even scroll down a page of threads to see that there is a duplicate... of a duplicate (etc).

What would you make with this tradeskill? Come up with a couple of hundred recipes scaled to be gotten every 20-25 points in skill, and only THEN will I say it's a good thing. Otherwise, no.

Bows, Arrows, Staves, Peg Legs, and decorative furniture (that can't actually be used).

Arrows are already sold by vendors. Staves are already made by Blacksmiths. Peg leg(s) You need more than one? Furniture is useless. That only leaves bows.

Coming up with balanced items is foolish as it cannot be implemented by us.

However, the way I see it working is:

There will be nodes that spawn in the same way as herbalism nodes and can be tracked with a tracking skill.

You will need an axe similar to a blacksmith's hammer to harvest the nodes.

Nodes will give raw wood/special items (twine/bark/knots etc).

The raw wood can be refined at a mill/bench to make wood stock.

The stock can be used and must be combined with other items to make weapons (bows staves) arrows (higher dps similar to crafted shot) and possibly novelty items.

An example recipe would be

Recipe: Brightwood Needler
Components: 4 x Refined Brightwood, 2 x Bloodsoaked Twine, 2 x Bronze Hinge
Creates: Brightwood Needler x 1, Sawdust x 4

You're right. I just looked it up (and should have before I made the assumption). OK, that takes care of 30-40 items, one every 20-25 skill points. Possibilities: Polearms (might need components from Blacksmiths, though) and Spears, fun stuff like musical instruments, Whittled idols, etc.

OK, you have me convinced.

An nteresting idea, but I think I agree that there just wouldn't be enough recipes to keep the prof going. Sure staves, arrows and bows are great but they're mostly already made by other profs and/or bought from vendors.

Nope, they're not made by other professions. Yes, you may need reagents from other professions (typically blacksmithing - arrowheads for the better arrows, spear heads, polearm heads, etc), but arrows, bows, crossbows, and shields are not made from other professions that I have seen. And hey, if leatherworkers can make mail gear, why wouldn't woodcrafters be able to make shields?

Musical instruments would be an awesome addition, imo. When used, they could give party members a spirit boost, for example. Or, a flute that, when used, charms/sleeps a mob for 10 seconds.

Yes, beat that horse to beyond the grave! I have seen furniture in wow already. There are chairs to sit on while fishing. To add to that would be easy. Various chairs and stools could be crafted and runed with 'chants to provide minor buffs if sat upon for a minute or so, as well as boosting your heath/mana rejuv rate while seated. May even replace food amongst rare item collectors. But the buffs and rejuv rates would be less than food because its a non-consumable.

I think music idea would be cool. Me i love doing stuff like that i love to buy 300 firewroks and run around shhoting them off and playing with snowman kits and stuff i really enjoy it alot.

Recipes could include talismans we could wear (remember Greg Brady in Hawaii?) or idols we could carry in our off hands. Wooden sheilds are a possibility and seem to be very applicable to shamans. We could make cooking fires more rare and require the lumberjack to cut firewood while in the badlands. (OK horrible idea, I love free fire and still laugh at the fact that I actually once bought firewood and tinder from a vendor).

The bark could be used in potions, either made by the same, or sellable to alchemists. Vines could be used for snare-like traps or used to strengthen something (maybe add 25%storage space to bags since you'd be tying more stuff onto them?). Or they can be used enchantment-like and you can replace the normal string on your bow with a 'vine of tautness' for +dps or increased range.

Bigger items might include building a cart for quicker transportation or carrying more stuff.

Love the music idea.

I don't think we'd have to force trees into otherwise tree-less regions either. In desert areas add cacti or sagebrush. Water areas could have reeds (some of which could be carried for improved water breathing - with the proper recipe). Mountainous regions could simply not have anything above a certain altitude (except for a special tree for a quest, perhaps).

I'm happy with the professions offered and don't necessarily think we need more (unless we can train in 3 primary profs?), but I think it's a doable proposal.
