Due to server price differences, and the randomness of what you get, you’d have to go with an average prospected result.

Eg, while the raw gems are only worth x gold, because you can cut them into something useful without additional mats, or else turn them into jewelry with additional mats, then you’ll have to see what you can get out of it based on what you can do with them.

I believe many people do what you say..there’s an awful lot of adamantite powder on sale by JCers who don’t need the mercurial dust. Additionally, while they may mine up 100 adamantite ore, instead of selling it for what the ore could bring, which would be a definite price, they take the chance to prospect it, hoping for more. So if you have a few hundred gold to spare, go ahead and try this and see if it works for you.

Is Prospecting a money maker?

In itself, no. Its a gamble. The goal of prospecting is to obtain gems of value to be used in JC. I'm not a very high level JC yet, (301) however, I can in all confidence that from my experience crafters will do their best to farm their own materials.

The biggest deterent from using prospecting as a money maker is the sheer randomly created drops you'll have from the ore. Its not worth it. The basic ideam you have is sound. You want to take goods from the AH, and make something better from it.

Since you've got some JC talent, try cutting gems and selling them. You can pick up some really low cost 300 skill level JC gems, cut them and sell them for a couple of gold a piece. I've already seen how noble gems can be cut and sold from twice what they are worth (if you're on Crushridge server).

I hope this helped.
