Alchemy and Discoveries

Just wondering... can u get a discovery off low lvl alchemy creations? Ive been making 200+ super mana pots, adepts elixirs ect, and only gotten 3 discoveries. Could I go buy like all the peace bloom and **** off the AH and make 10,000 lowbie pots, and proc some discoveries??

No. You can only get discoveries from recipes learned in the expansion using Outlands herbs.

I have a related question, hope it's not off topic.

I feel like a noob being a 354 alchemist, but I have no idea what discoveries are. Could someone please explain?
