post 2.3 "dust and shards" market situationFollow

Pre 2.3 i pretty much was market owner on small radiant shards, the nether essences and some more. I managed to kill competitors asap by buying out the cheaper ones and keep prices at my level.

However Post 2.3 i see more shards and dusts comming on low prices. Now i got 2 options: i can buy all and keep prices high or wait and study market development.

The increase of shards and dusts is related with the increase of pre TBC instances loot so its possible that the flow of shards and dusts keep comming and i end up only spending money on fighting competitors which automaticly means i just helping competitors.

I just hope i can keep these markets as for it (almost) made me my epic flyer already

Anyway i wander what is the situation on your server?

I'd sit back and watch your server's economy for a bit.

The laws of supply and demand always hold true, and while people are running the instances for the improved loot to d/e, the supply is likely to be higher than the demand until the novelty wears off.

Sure, you could buy out all the shards now, and hold them for when the market picks back up, but that would be a big chunk of change to tie up. I would personally hold on to what you yourself d/e and check prices again in a couple weeks. By then I doubt people will be running the instances as much.

Also, with the improved leveling, there's liable to be a sh** load of people (myself included!) moving up their alts, and with those alts will come needed enchants, and the demand for shards etc will pick up again.

Just keep an eye on it, and when the prices go up, sell, and if you think they're at rock bottom, buy what you're comfortable with. The market will inevitably recover, but you can never predict by how much.//

End of babbling. Good Luck!

I think you'll find this as a long term change in the market. (My realm has reflected this already.) I figured that the influx of low end mats (especially shards with the change of green->blue gear in instances) would increase the supply, thus reducing the demand. So being a smart bear, I sold off all my stock last week. ;D

IMO you'll not likely get back control of the market and if you try you'll take a loss. The mats are still worth DEing/selling but you'll have to wait a bit and let the new market stabalize before knowing the new price range. No more selling Small radiants for 10g each. :/

While this will be true in the short term, I believe it will eventually stabilize simply because there will also be a greater demand for these dusts/shards. A lot of these "dusted-off" alts are reasonably well funded (by their mains) and will tend to power-level their enchanting skill.

I did sold all stacks last week 2 but now i need to make my next move. I do believe that the market will stabilize eventually mainly because of the decrease of the current alt-boom and the increase of demand due to enchants (maybe also more enchanters lvlling)

Anyway in the meanwhile i want to own a market as for it was my main income and supported my main and many alt along the way.

Maybe its best to take the opportunity, run some instances, lvl and take the dusts and shard to uldaman to finally lvl my enchanting towards 300

That is no longer neccessary. All the Azeroth city enchanters now train up to level 300.

Please try to maintain your monopoly - people like you are a godsend to those of us who don't need your product - kinda like a walking piggy bank.

If I've got time and want to make a lot of money, I just slightly undercut you, resulting in either my stuff being bought first or you buying it.

If I need cash fast, I put it up at around 80% and you'll buy it out just to get rid of me.

So please keep it up for the sake of everyone like me on your server.

Yeah i know its best for everybody but the thing is when i recently checked i saw like 50+ buyouts waiting for me. So now i'm just studying the market to see how fast new shards and dusts are added. After 2 weeks i will evaluate wheter i continue with my recent markets or change to a different market.

Keep you posted.

I held onto my Large Prismatics the other day. I only had to wait until a little later for other people's cheap ones to be bought out.

I am not going to try to own the market on anything. I'll follow it. I'll decide if I am going to participate on a particular item, but I am not going to try to buy everyone else out.

I buy greens and blues. I don't fund the other disenchanters. If the mat price stays low, I'll find cheaper greens to create it, or I simply wont have any of that item.

I rarely do strange dust because it usually doesn't meet my personal criteria of at least 1g calculated profit on any bought item. That goes for any dust or shard. No real brainpower needed on my part. A green either meets my criteria or it doesn't.

While i understand your point on not buying out certain items for market ownage i really recommend to just see the market and think about the possible extra profit.

I must say that i only buyout items whit a garanteed profit of 2g+. For example on my server small radiant shards go fo 10g a piece (this is the artifical price lvl me and a competitor created). When somebody (disenchanter or not) posts some pieces for <7g i buyout and repost.

Sometimes i find myself buying out for 200g on several markets and not being able to sell it directly but in the long term always sell it at my price. Mostly 100%-500% profit on buyouts only.

BTW the market situation havn't changed, more shards yes but longer periods of my auctions to sell, just some buyout extra here and there. Works perfectly.

And the dusts and essences havn't really changed that much. Still selling it with >100% profit on the greens.
