Skinning skill up questionFollow

#1 Nov 21 2007 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
Does it matter what level you are when you are skinning to get a skill up? Or does it matter what the color of the mob is (the "Skinnable" color, that is)? Or is it a combination?

I ask because I have a level 61 that I started skinning with. He's got 225 skinning and it seems like he gets a skillup off of Orange like one out of five and yellow 1 out of 10-12 and hardly anything from greens. However, I have a level 35 character and he gets points from greens like one out of five and even better for yellow and oranges.

Any thoughts?

From wow wiki.

Quote:
The chance of gaining a skill point in skinning depends upon the color of the word "Skinnable" in the tooltip for the animal. The levels are:

* Grey: No chance.
* Green: Light chance of skill gain.
* Yellow: Good chance of skill gain.
* Orange: 100% chance of skill gain. NOTE: at higher skinning levels "orange skinnables" will not always give a skill gain after every skin.
* Red: Can't skin.

Just like any of the other trade skills.

I have kept my skinning skill way above my character level the whole way. Maybe it's because I skin a lot but a large majority of things my level or even higher are green to me by the time I get to them. My rogue just hit level 60 and his skinning is 369. I was level 49 when I trained Master Skinning in Shatt because I was capped at 300.

So I don't know. I believe what the Wiki says though.

I am level 31 and my druid's skinning is already 220 or so. I should be at 300 by the time I am 40 I am thinking. I haven't even touched stv yet.

I was 300 by mid 40s on my hunter. I didn't get the training to raise my skill cap until level 58 when I went through the Dark Portal. I'm 64 now and I think I'm at 373 or something like that. Skinning just levels. I barely pay attention.

The higher the level you are, the more "orange" skins you need to get a skill-up.
