Hello, i recently dinged 70 and i want to unlearn mining and get jewelcrafting.
is it worth it or should i keep mining?

Ordinarily, I would suggest mining be paired with blacksmithing, engineering or jewelcrafting (if you're making items) or skinning (if you're making money).
If you've got tailoring to 300+, perhaps you should be looking for a profession that will partner that. Enchanting springs to mind.

If you really want to get into the moneysink that is jewelcrafting I hope that you saved up enough mats to powerlevel it.
J/C without mining is like Beevus without butthead.
J/C is expensive enough to lvl with out having to buy ALL the mats you need.

If you got some dinero saved up (3-4k prob, maybe more) get JC.
If you get it to 350 and get a decent pattern or 2 for every rare gem type you will never have to farm again.
Buy adamantite ore direct from AH and prospect it. Cut the gems and put em on AH. Easy money. No spamming trade to sell your wares, no farming. Then you can spend your time doing what you want and buy what you want/need.
Best decision I ever made.

I guess it's up to you whether or not it's worth it. If you are going for the benefit of jewelcrafting and being able to cut your own gems and whatever else then sure it's worth it. If you are going for jewelcrafting as a way to make money I can't really give you advice because it really depends on your server. I make a lot of gold mining, but haven't tried to do the same with jewelcrafting.
If you do decide to get jewelcrafting you do have a major advantage, you have mining right now and your skill is pretty high. I would highly recommend mining as many of your jewelcrafting supplies as possible. I recently leveled my jewelcrafting to 300 without training mining and I ran into two major problems, the first being that it cost me a fortune to level up and the second being that I could hardly find the supplies I needed on the auction house (I reside on a low pop server). So if you do decide to change to jewelcrafting at least try to mine some of your higher level or more rare supplies so you don't have to spend a fortune on the auction house.

Unless you have a TON of gold (as in over 10,000g sitting around) or another level 70 with some sort of flying mount with mining as an alt, then no I don't recommend it.
I secretly laugh at all these people that thing "zomg JC makes so much money I want to do it" without first realizing to get to the point where I currently am, you have to spend a TON of time farming, and a TON of gold. For 6+ months every time I had more than 200g I threw it into JC. Eventually I got to the point where there is nothing left to buy (save one stupid little BEM green gem), nothing left to farm, and the only rare/epic gems I'm missing are Hyjal stuff (and I even have a majority of those too). NOW I can make silly money when I choose to, but I can't tell you the time and gold I've sunk into it to get to this point. I'm sure as heck never leveling another character with jewelcrafting, that's for sure.

Why would you want to do that? 70 is mining at its peak. Fast flying mounts and the ability to quickly take out mobs make for $$$.
Create an alt, and have it take up Jewelcrafting. Use your lvl 70 to supply mats. Easy and cheap. Also fun since you get to level an alt :)

The problem with that idea is that in order to really make JC worth it, you need to get it up to 350+ where the rare gems/patterns are usable. To level the skill that high requires level 50...suddenly that alt is a lot of work.
On the main question, as others have said, I would not recommend dropping mining for JC. Prospecing ore will be the primary source of gems. If you don't have mining and you're buying gems off the AH, you're pretty significantly cutting into your net possibilities.
If you do decide to go JC...again, as others said...make sure you stockpile mats and closely follow a leveling guide. I leveled a JC with the benefit of mats from other alts and tried my best to follow a guide, but still ran into a speedbump in the high 200s. It takes a lot of gems to get skill up points in the 275-300 range. It can get awful expensive when you don't get skill ups from yellow patterns and have to go buy more gems or ore to prospect.
All in all, I would not recommend pairing JC with anything but mining...it's doable, but it will probably cause issues.
