I know I have a topic down a few but no one seems to be responding to it:

Alright in this post before hand I had asked alch or herb, well I went alch and in 2 hours plus 400g I maxed out alchemy. I have since made 200-300 major exilers of agility without a single discovery. Is the rate of discovery purely luck, or did I waste cash on a exiler thats not going to proc a discvoery. Oh I did get primal life-earth after making some diamond...so obviously they do proc...am I doing something wrong or have I just been unlucky?

As most math people know, a percentage means you could either get three in a row, or never get one.

There is (lets suppose) a 5% chance of discovering something, okay?

If you make one of them, there is a 1/20 chance you will make a discovery, but if you make two, its not 2/20, it is STILL 1/20, it doesnt add up.

Ive seen people get 2 discoveries in one day, they are lucky.

Same goes for (when you do the quests) masteries, you can get 5 proccs in 6 potions, or 40 potions and no proccs.

Though AFAIK some recipes do have a higher chance of giving a discovery, I've heard everytime someone gets a major protection pot (fire/ice/etc) about 5-10 times, they get the cauldron recipe, wich is a discovery, and a friend, me (and as you just said, you too) has gotten transmute life-earth after transmuting a diamond.

Just hope you get lucky, and have fun doing alchemy.

Transmute and cauldron discoveries will be the most easiest to get.

Flasks...can be serious trouble.

Most guilds fund and supply their trusted alchemists with LOADS AND LOADS of herbs to make elixers in hope of getting procs.

This also gets them loads of potions to use for heroics, guild rewards, raids events that dont deserve a flask.

I wrote in another post about this self-same topic, only 2 days ago:

I had several discoveries quite quickly after TBC came out but haven't had one now in literally months, unless you count cauldrons which are easy to discover - usually you just have to make one of the relevant major protection potion in order to discover the cauldron. I make at least 20 elixirs on a daily basis and am getting a bit pissed off with no discoveries! (Proc rate still seems to be ok, though. I rarely go without a proc in 5 elixirs).

I don't know what Blizz did to the % rate of discoveries but I have a feeling it's waaaay lower than it used to be in all masteries, sadly.

Asking the same question several times over does not mean you will get the answer you want to hear. Suck it up or change prof.

I was just wondering what the percents were, and if I was doing somethign wrong, I kinda figured the discoveries would be low, just wondered how low...
