Hey guys. I have a 55 druid and my professions are mining which is a lowly lvl probably in the 60s haha and enchant which i havent done anything with for ageeees. Engineering looks like a blast and i really wanna do it. But is it too expensive and does it hog up my money making mining too much? I will be getting my mining up soon for my epic mount obviosly *gulp*, and i want to do a fun crafting profession can u give me your thoughts on it please. Thanks

Even though I don't haven engineering on any of my toons i'd still like to add my 2 cents worth. If you're thinking that you'll make an uber amount of money with engineering you won't. Engineers make all the little toys and exploding robots for themselves since for the really cool things you have to be an engineer to use them. As far as a money drain on your mining? Yes of course it will drain your money since you'll be using your ore for engineering purposes instead of making money off it.

With all that said though, the enginer flying epic mount is a sweet one and one that on my next toon I will defintitely have to work towards getting

Thanks mask your right, i was just wondering if engineering was at all worth it through all the fun. I will give it a shot i reckon better than enchanting sitting there.
Thanks

If this level 55 is your main then taking engineering now will be frustrating and keep you broke. I would keep mining (and level it up!) and enchanting. Only raise your enchanting as much as you need to DE whatever you find, and sell all excess mats and your ore on the AH. Once you are 70, you can drop enchanting if you want and pick up Engineering. It will be easier to powerlevel once you have gold from the outlands to use. I have a 24 warlock with mining/enchanting and the only reason I can keep engineering up is that I have 2 70's to help out. It can technically be done at your level without help but you will be constantly poor or have to spend lots of extra time farming for mats.

I'd have to agree, coming into Engineering at lvl 55 would be difficult and costly to level. I started out with Engineering/Mining, and I haven't found it too expensive to level, but I've been doing it a little at a time. Yes, Engineering will use almost all the ore you can mine. I RARELY have extra ore to sell, but then I don't grind mining. I just mine what I find while questing. If you don't like Enchanting, maybe you should take up herbalism or skinning and level that along with your mining for money. Then when you have enough gold you may want to look into Engineering again.

I really enjoy all the toys I can make. Some of them are useful for fighting mobs, a very few can sell for profit, and most of them are purely for laughs. Some of the high-level engineering items are totally worth it!

As a druid you will find it hard to use engineering stuff like bombs and pets in shifter form so beware.

Feral druids can't use most of the engineering toys in bear/cat form - don't know about Boomkins and Trees?

Engineering is fun though if you can use the toys - my pally is an engineer and I'm having a great time with that combo!

As much as I enjoy engineering, I’d think that the druid class would get the least out of it. As mentioned, if you play mostly in animal forms you’ll have problems using just about everything made with engineering. And THE very best engineering item, at least in my opinion, is the flying machine. And as a druid you’ll have a natural flight form. As much fun as the flying machine is, having an instant cast flight form is much more convenient.

If you have any interest in playing another class, my suggestion would be to save engineering for the next character you play. That way you can level up engineering and enjoy it as you progress through the game. And you’ll have this character to help out with the funding if you should need it.

i created an alt to do engineering , now at level 35 but with all the farming you will do collecting ore you will not make millions of gold but my alt just has 150g and a full set of netherweave bags , probably enough mats in the bank to be worth around another 300g .

if you are not in a mad rush to level but want to have some fun , engineering is a real good way to go , i would suggest to be able to get any use from the toys you have to start around level 10 and just keep engineering to your level , buy any reasonable priced gun/sight recipes you see as i can sell guns and the better sights quite easily , also as i made a hunter the free bullets are a real bonus

i am not sure what class would be best to be an engineer as a lot of bop stuff you create is cloth ,

best first fun i had was at level 30 with the harvest reaper kit , its a robot that is level 35 and does a great job in defence , i found when it dies you can loot it and most times get a lot of parts back

there is also the goblin jumper cables which are useful if you are not a class that can bring dead players back to life ,

so much fun in engineering to be had with bombs , robots and other odd stuff , as long as it is done with care as you level you will slowly make some gold , and of course at 70 you get the flying machine which has to be worth the long trip to 70 as there are still so few about on my server

One exception are the goggles, which a druid will probably get more use out of than any other class. You can wear Cogspinners at level 50 if you can boost your engineering high enough, and you can use Bandit, Beast, Invoker and Healing varieties in your various forms. At 70, when you respec back and forth to be your guild's healer or tank as necessary, you'll have an amazing headpiece for both.

And you'll find ways to use your gadgets--bombs for pulling crowds as a feral tank, for example. Or use any of them as a healer--unless you're a tree.

Engineering has capabilities that fill in voids in a character's class capabilities. A lot of the suitability is based on what do you want to do that you can't do. Beyond that, there are a few fun things, and the rest is cosmetic.

One of the biggies is rez. You can already rez. It is another way to rez, so you might still have a use for it.

Engineering has ways to reach out and touch someone, but your druid can already cast ranged spells.

You can't use the guns.

There are area effects, could be good for you.

There is seaforium to open chests.

The exclusive teleporters are a way to access a bit of additional game content.

Lots of headgear.

Parachute. Mage has feather fall.

All in all, I don't think druid is the best match up, but it is useful.

Financially, there is not much in engineering that non-engineers can even use. Which means that most of your market can also fabricate the items. A few items are universal use. There is a demand for the gnomish and goblin engineering specialization items in the other specialization, except for a few items that have specialization specific use.

If you have a farming alt, you should have enough mats.

If you're a feral druid then engineering is a waste of time and gold since you can't use any of the stuff in cat/bear form.
