why gatherer is greatFollow

i never understood why the gatherer addon was so praised. i installed it, along with the data file, and gave it a try.

the common places for nodes are put on your minimap, so that you know when to make small course deviations in order to check areas known to have nodes spawn.

i cruised through felwood to pickup the winterspring fp, and because of gatherer, i came out with 3 more mithril nodes that if i had followed the road like i always do!

is there any other especially handy functionality to this addon, that I should be investigating?

You can also collect nodes for resources that you don't use. For example, even as a miner, you can click on herbs as well. While you won't be able to gather them (obviously), Gatherer records the node. This allows your guildies and your alts to obtain these nodes for their professions as well.

Note that Gatherer also records the locations of loot chests. This is a nice way of remembering where you found a lootable chest.

Here's a counter point to this thread...

I used Gatherer for about 2 days before I deleted it from my addons folder.

I suddenly found several guildies doing my exact mining runs, when I had never had any competition previously. So even though you get their data, they get yours too.

you can disable many of the features, but the nice part is that a lot of it comes in modules so you only need to install what you want/need. I LOVE cartographer_route (gives you the most efficient path to search for a particular node in an area). It is amazing for herbalism runs.

also any tips where is best to mine iron/gold in eastern kingdoms?

Depending on level and faction but both those mentioned are good for Iron, and some mithril. Never found a gold node yet, but should be same node level area
