Hi there.
I have a hunter, lvl 28, and he has Mining and Skinning as professions.
Now to my question, since mining is bringing in the $$, atleast for now, I was wondering if skinning will pay off later in the game or if I should change it for Disenchanting? What do you make money from?
Let me hear some advise, thank you.

To be able to disenchant everything you have to actually level enchanting, which takes a chunk of gold. Skinning makes money the whole way. If you're willing to shell out the money, yes I think enchanting/disenchanting will make you more money.

What do I do for money? I have nearly every jewelcrafting recipe in the game. I make as much money as I want to.

At your current level you will be able to get enchanting to 225, meaning you can D/E upto lvl 64 greens (or lvl 60 blues/purples).

D/E may be a greater money maker than skinning (and you can level it and still make money) but skinning won't take any extra time, D/E items does take a long time, especially for low level items in high numbers.

Be warned though, this will depend on your server, you may find that there are already too many people D/E greens and the profit margins are tiny.

I haven't spent more than possible 20 gold to level enchanting to 300, while making thousands of gold (enough for three epic fliers + tons of other stuff) at the same time. The trick is to use your own mats and to do it fairly slowly. If you try to power level your enchanting skill you will be wasting gold unnecessarily.

Each time you use your own materials to level enchanting (or any profession) there is still the value of those matierals to consider. Sure, you may not have paid for them but you're sure as hell going to miss out on the money you could have made from selling them. You should probably also take into account the cost of the recipes. So enchanting does cost a lot to level up whereas mining/skinning don't.

Having said that, I have one toon that's around 285 in enchanting and I know it paid for my epic flying mount. Sadly the days of making 100-200g per day on it are gone and disenchanting for profit has died on my server. Too many people doing it and trying to undercut each other's prices.

It's very dependent on the market on your server.

On my main server, I have found that skinning is very nice money until Outland, and in Outland it is fairly worthless as a money making skill, while mining is a good money maker the whole way and remains so at level cap.

Enchanting/Disenchanting can be a way to great money but is either (1) leveled very slowly for little money while you are leveling it or (2) leveled quickly when you are high level for a significant chunk of cash. Disenchanting ishould be a good money maker on most servers once it is leveled, but it's the "making money while leveling it" part that deters many people from it.

Thanks for all the replies, it's been very helpful.
I think I will take up (dis)enchanting and skip skinning and hopefully make more money. =)

If you're just talking about the greens you'll pick up while lvling, then skinning will make you more money.

If you're talking about DEing stuff from the AH, then it depends on the server, but DEing has greater potential.

That's it, in a nutshell.

IIRC you also have access to all of the epic gems in BT so I think that right there should give you a huge chunk of gold if you get them and can sell them.

The only cost incurred is the cost of the items to disenchant. Since you are making gold (about 200G/day at 275), the price of the items is miniscule to get to 300, and less than 1/2 the price of the mats themselves if you are doing disenchanting correctly.
