Spellsurge or BattlemasterFollow

Hi there everyone!
I won a lucky roll on my shaman to get the battlemaster enchant last week. I had the spellsurge one for quite a while now.

My question to everyone, Which is more useful for a resto shaman?

Now Im considering spellsurge because its a chance on spellcast not on melee, but does it proc on healing spells?

Formula: Enchant Weapon - Battlemaster
Enchanting
Requires Enchanting (360)
Use: Teaches you how to permanently enchant a weapon to give a chance on striking to heal your party of 180 to 300 damage.

Formula: Enchant Weapon - Spellsurge
Enchanting
Requires Enchanting (360)
Use: Teaches you how to permanently enchant a Melee Weapon to have a 3% chance on spellcast to restore 100 mana to all party members over 10 seconds.

Has anyone tried these? Or would it just be best for me to go for the good ol' +81 healing ench.

Spellsurge is the better of the two for a healer, and can be better than Superior Healing in a raid situation. I've never used it myself, but the math posts I've seen approve of it, though not enthusiastically.

+81 healing is still a solid choice.

Will you be hitting stuff with whats inyour hand?

because i think striking means the weapon, not spell cast.

Yes, Spellsurge procs on healing spells. I've heard that it's most useful in raids where you are grouped with other casters who also have the Spellsurge enchant. That way it can stack five times. 500 mana over 10 seconds for five casters would be a significant boost to your raid.

If you aren't grouped with others who have the enchant however, it probably won't proc enough to really get much out of the mana regeneration to justify the cost. +81 healing is a more reliable benefit.

Battlemaster is probably out of the question, since it will only proc on melee hits. As Tenjen asked, how often will you be meleeing in a group setting?

By the way, Spellsurge apparently has a hidden 30-second cooldown on its proc. That means you can play the system by having a second weapon with +81 healing instead of Spellsurge, and when Spellsurge procs, switch to the second weapon for 30 seconds, at which point Spellsurge can proc again. Oh, and the tooltip is wrong: Spellsurge has a 15% proc rate.

Would be a good idea, but you cant switch weapons in the middle of battle. So really its not a good idea. Since in most occasions I PUG non-heroic instances, sticking with the +81 would be my best option.

Thank you for the posts guys and rate up for all of you.

That's not strictly true. You CAN switch weapons in battle, but I think it resets melee swing timers and stops you casting new spells for a moment. (not exactly sure on that, but I know it has some adverse effects)

Sure you can. It's armor that you can't change in battle.

Melee classes often write macros that automatically switch their weapons according to their stances and moves.

You can also download programs like Outfitter and Itemrack that will switch your weapons for you when certain abilities trigger--for example, switching to high spirit weapons when your spirit tap procs.
