Fishing-question about castingFollow

I have levelled my fishing to 375 lately and came across a small problem.

When I tried to cast at an exact spot (a pool or school of fish), I could not figure out how to do that, the float just landed randomly in the water. Is there a trick to it?

I believe it is random and you cannot do much about it, however lets see if anyone knows any tricks about this.

Random to the extent that you can not control the "AIM"

You can attempt to adjust things by moving left, right, closer, further away. That's really all you can do.

I recommend the addon fishing buddy, it allows you to quick-cast using double-rightclick (I believe was the macro for it) saved hitting the stupid button so much.

Not sure whether I've sussed the knack, or whether I'm the victim of some B.F. Skinner type experiments.

The game will always try and place your float in a visible place on screen. I adjust my camera angle to make the spawn as large and central as possible. A very steep angle on some spawns, a low angle on others.

Yes I play around with the camera angle as well. Fishing Buddy is also a good tip -- makes recasting much, much faster I find and less of a hassle.

I put my cast on a hotbar and assign a keybind to it. So I don't have to click anything I just hit a key to recast.

Blizzard has made several adjustments of late that have made fishing much easier. And I’m not just referring to the shorter fishing timer or the fact that every cast will now get a bite.

There used to be issues with seeing the line, which meant that you had to wait until the bobber showed up before you knew whether or not you had cast within the circle of fish. Now we can see the line right away so we can recast in quick succession until it lands where we want it. And after the shorter timer was added, the bobber used to be able to get “hit” just as the timer ran out. So unless you were very quick that fish would get away. That too has been fixed.

I just click on my fishing icon on the hot bar. I find it very quick and easy. I may have to click it several times before the bobber lands within the circle, but I can do so very quickly so I don’t see it as an issue.

And while having to cast several times to get the bobber inside a pool of fish or pool of wreckage can be a bit of a pain, be thankful Blizzard came up with that method or we’d be back to fishing up nothing but mostly worthless fish. I remember well the year or two of fishing being only good for alchemy supplies, pet food or leveling up cooking. And we have bots to thank for that dry spell. So I'm very happy with fishing now. Blizzard even restocked the fish pond in Ironforge.

I remember back to release when you would routinely get a green item or potion out of every 10-15 casts. Back when you are under level 10 and no one has much more, those greens were very, very nice to see. Of course the bots destroyed that.

@OP You've levelled fishing to 375 and you've only just noticed that the position of the float/line/bobber thing is random?

What did you do, fish in Stormwind for 14 hours?

Hmm. My memories are slightly different to yours, then. I remember being one of 3 people on my server who fished Essence of Water in Azshara, in almost never ending circuits. Paid for my epic mount and my raiding costs easily, and gave me a lifelong love of that zone Smiley: smile

Strangely accurate, fishing takes 13.5 hours minimum to 375 hehe

LOL, I did not do it in one day ;)

My fishing was at about 260 when I started to level to 375, the rest was levelled during "normal" play. Took me a few days fishing (couple of hours every day). First some fishing in Darnassus (to get a head start), after that in Zangarmarsh, Nagrand and Terrokar Forrest.

The casting thing started to bother me when I got bored and had to cast several times to get the bobber(?) at the right spot.

@aardfrith: No I had noticed it already ;) but it accured to me that there might be a trick, a bit too late, I admit.
