first of all, forget about class. There is no "best for mage", and tradeskills that make money are good for all classes.

#1 Disenchanting (farm the AH)
#2 Mining
#3 Fishing
#4 (tie) Herbalism & Skinning

Your mileage may vary, because a lot depends on your realm's economy, but that's how it is for me.

There isn't really a 'best for mage' but there are ones that are terrible/not too good for them:

Blacksmithing
Leatherworking
Engineering (depending)

As a response to the original question (what is the best class for the mage (money wise), I agree. However keep in mind that tailoring is ofc almost a must have profession for a mage at 70 due to the bind on pickup epic recipes that tailoring provides comparable with T4 level equipment.

However, while levelling you can pick two gathering professions (and saving all cloth you pick up while questing) and drop one on level 70 to pick up tailoring then.

It's in the FAQ. You do read FAQ's before you post, don't you?

Torture? Compulsion? Coercion? Bruno, Guido and Nuncio have the night free and have their ballpeen hammers ready to go.

On the other hand, we might try ridicule. Pointing and laughing are good alternatives to violence. If anyone has any reservations, then we could try both. We could hire Guido to point, Nuncio to laugh, and Bruno to do a number on his kneecaps.

You asked.

Edited for spelling, which is a good idea. Other posters should try it once in a while.

I love Mike. He's a fisherperson, defends me when I make ambiguous posts. I wish I had a daughter to give to him as a present.

Please don't send Bruno. I had to give up my career as an Internationally Renowned Concert Pianist, the last time Bruno came round.

Take my Wife, my gold, my purpulzz, but please don't send Bruno.

I love you OhMike. But in a nice way, that makes Bruno stay at home.

EDIT:
Pleading on Behalf of < 10 post OP. Would hate to see another one go Sub-D and earn a visit from Bruno
