Farming Essence and other foolishnessFollow

Now that I've actually started taking my chant skills seriously (at lvl 62, chanting at 273) it's been major frustration ever since.

So I'm trying to map out a couple of things

1) New recipes: since the vendors don't give them out until 300, are there zones that tend to yield certain recipe drops, or do I really need to go hunt down every specific creature in every specific instance listed on the AK charts and kill them over and over until they drop it?

2) I've been trying to map out the zones that drop magic items that give the specific essences. Dusts and shards haven't been too difficult for me, but a little help fleshing the Essences out would be great.

- Magic Essence = ?
- Astral Essence = ?
- Mystic Essence = ?
- Nether Essence = ?
- Eternal Essence = Silithus
- Planar Essence = Outlands

Sorry if this has been covered before, I didn't see a search function on the board. Thanks in advance!

WoW-Wiki is your friend!

To level enchanting, you must enchant things with Orange skills. Basic stuff, everyone knows that. So what reagents does it take to do the encahnts. OK, then look up, say Lesser Nether Essance and it tells you what will disenchant best for those mats. So you find those items, easiest ways are the AH or crafting. So look on the AH or find out what mats it takes the make the items. It takes time but it is more efficient that grinding for certain items. I am in the same boat, almost to 250 and lots of 275 items to D/E. Looking for the mats to get my skill ups. My main is doing ok, so that is where some of the funds go. I have extra mats that I will put back on the AH to fund buying more items and so it goes.

you really need to learn to read tables.

 46-50 [Dream Dust] 75% 1-2x [Greater Nether Essence] 20% 1-2x [Large Radiant Shard] 5% [8]

This entry means that armor in the 46-50 level has a 75% chance of disenchanting into 1-2 Dream Dust, a 20% chance of producing 1-2 Greater Nether Essence, and a 5% chance of coming up with a Large Radiant Shard. clicking on the link at the right side of the entry leads to a list of all craftable items of that type and level.

What you need to do is to go to Amazon and buy "Reading Spreadsheets for Dummies".

I suppose I'm after a bit more detail than that spreadsheet supplies. No matter.

The other half of my question lies unanswered, but I doubt that changes anytime soon.

If you don't ask stupid questions someone's already answered, they won't be hostile to you.

How do you get more detail than an exact percentage of a drop rate?

Shockingly enough, "46-50" green items will drop off "46-50" levelled mobs.

Not sure what the OP was reading (or smoking as he read it), but that chart is great. Thanks for the link, Mike. I've been able to figure out a few specific items that DE into specific mats, but I never had the full level range broken down like that.

There is actually a great addon called Enchantrix that tells you what a certain item will D.E into or in the case of a regeant, from which lvl equipment it will D.E from. You can get it from:
Curse.com

Or you can also get it from the auctioneer website. Link

I'm pretty sure is also does something else, but can't remember off the top of my head.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on that chart, Mike. Never knew about that. Comes in quite handy for those of us who are enchanters and also DE for mats to place on auction.

I don't think Enchantrix can be used as a stand-alone. It needs Auctioneer to function.

level 62, eh? quest for gold (and xp) and use the money to buy greens off AH. it's a much more efficient way to get the mats you're looking for.

i find the tables on the official prof page handly:
