I've heard that you can ride griffins, but only if you have the engineering skill. Is that true?

On a side note, theres not only "griffins"(its gryphons btw... I think), but many other flying beasts, called "flight paths" wich you can pay to ride and get there faster if you were already at said destination, and talked to said wind rider master.

If you are alliance once you are 70 you can get your very own gryphon for like 900g total, and 5k gold for the epic one.

Engineers (And yes, only they can use them) can make special engineering flying machines, but they need to buy the riding skill anyway.

No. Engineers have a craftable mount only they may use, but it's a flying maching. The griffin mounts are purchaseable from the Cenarion Expedition if you're Exalted with them. They're relatively expensive.

Okay first off, if you're talking about the mounts that you can control yourself, you need to be level 70, and you can only ride them in Outlands.

It is (as said above) 900g for a normal flying mount, and 5200g for an epic mount. (For alliance, these can be bought at Wildhammer Stronghold in Shadowmoon).

There are different types of flying mounts that can be purchased with the appropriate rep with a faction.

You might want to look here for information.

Now if you're talking about on the mainlands (Kalimendor, etc.), those are flightpaths. Check this link out for more information : THIS LINK

Mounts:

Alliance can get Gryphons

more info:

http://www.wowwiki.com/Mounts

Flying mounts are restricted to Outland

You can also fly a Gryphon as an Alliance player as part of the inter-city transportation system, but you don't have any control over the mount.
