I just bumped my Priest up to 50 so I can work on his tailor skill. Hes now approx 344 and I see in Shat there is 3 different guys ot buy from.
so my questions is If I choose to purchase the shadow spec items does this mean I am now going forward only able to craft those?
Were can I go to get more details. Any were else to buy recipes this lvl besides outrageous AH ?

Okay a few things to know:

You can only wear the crafted pieces of the spec that you pick.

The spec that you pick will make two of the cloth (every 4 day cooldown), but you can still make the other pieces, but only make 1, but they each have their own cooldown so you can still make them at your own lesiure.

You can buy the recipes from the guy in shattrath, I don't believe they are limited quantity. That or if you are scryer you can buy some of them at the sanctum of the sun in SMV.

if you look up in the trade skills section it lists all recipes and where from , as you say the auction house is crazy for prices and a lot farm ? vendors and sell at rip off prices , as an example there is one auction seller that buys recipes for less than 50s and always posts at around 40g , and the higher level recipes he buys at a few gold and sells for 100,s of gold

there is also a nice add-on i use that shows all recipes you can get or do not know , the info is a little basic at times in that it just says vendor/trainer ect , but if a drop does give a little extra detail

look for , Ackis Recipe list , it also shows things like hunter skills that you do not know , i have only just got this add-on and find it very useful on all my alts

Well thats good news thanks for the help. Keeping my priest as shadow P for now. I also think ill use that specialty , enough Locks and SP around.
To bad about the 4 day cooldown kinda reminds me waiting on Felcloth/moon cloth.
Havnt used any adds before , maybe get into it 1 day as there really useful but I have 70 Rogue, 68 Hunter 50 Shadow Priest , havnt yet ha ha
But grinding Rep and getting cloth drops has allowed me to to gain several skills at once, And of course rest XP for later :)

I do that sort of thing all the time. It is not a rip off. It is a convenience. The seller is selling his real world gaming time that he took to gather the items in exchange for gold at the auction house. Don't kid yourself, doing this repeatedly is tedious, even if it does have a high pay off.

No one is forcing you to buy those items from them at the auction house. You could do the same trip your seller did and buy them cheaply for yourself. If you find that daunting, you've just answered for yourself why the auction house price is fair.

My current mindset is that if I can't sell it at at least a 200% markup (3x the price) it isn't worth ******** around with. And if the payoff isn't at least tens of silver, it isn't worth ******** around with. The stuff I sell regularly has a markup in the thousands of percent and the payoff is in the gold, and you know what? It must be worth it, because the demand is always there, I have a good turn over, in fact I have to restock often, and I'm rarely the most expensive seller.

And you know what else? If you think the prices are too high, you are free to farm them for yourself and sell them at the same auction house for less. Have at it.

also you can't do the tailoring specialty quests that allow you to get the 2 pieces of cloth every 4 days until you've hit lvl 60 on your toon and I think 350 tailoring
