Your suggestions on Mining InstancesFollow

Hi,

I got to 70 - and dropped Skinning 375 & Enchanting 265 to take up mining and Blacksmithing. (Don't cry over the Enchanting - my Main has it at 375. I started this toon first - dropped him for a year - and I have now leveled him up).

I would like some suggestions on which instance - or caves - to run to level my mining. I know about the cave in Wetlands - and have just started there.

But I would really appreciate any help with further progression. I know Uldaman has some of Iron ore - but is there a better place to mine Iron? And where to go after that?

I haven't found a quide to mining in Instances - which ones give which ore.
I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks All.

There is no guide because it isn't worth your time. Mining nodes are so spaced out in instances that by the time you'd clear the whole instance, you'd have less than a stack of ore. Also in the same amount of time if you go to a ZONE you'll have 3-4 stacks of ore in the same amount of time.

You ought to be able to figure out where to get copper
Tin I always like thousand needles, but I'm Horde
Iron best place is Badlands
Mithril best place is Tanaris
Small Thorium I either go to southern Tanaris or Un'goro
Rich Thorium I always go to burning steppes

I agree with Dil - instances are not very good for mining.

For leveling areas, I have a very similar list too:

Iron - Arathi/Badlands
Mithril - Tanaris/Badlands
Thorium - Burning Steppes/EPL

The key is finding the zone where no one else is farming. Early morning worked great for me.

Then, just run loops on your epic mount and load up on ore :)

For small thorium, I like the mine in Blasted Lands, right at the BL/Swamp of Sorrows border. It's identical to the Netherwing mine so the layout is simple, it's ~80%/20% small thorium/mithril, and it's not part of the loop drawn on most of the "guide to WoW mining maps" sites, so it's possible to find a good number of nodes even during busy hours.

Thank you all - good advice.

Never having been a miner - it just always seemed like there was a tone of ore to be mined in every instance run.
(Maybe because the fight was over - we were ready to move on - and STOP - I gotta mine this!)

I will take your suggestions on where to mine.

I gotta say - I'm starting to hate mining already. Takes forever to level.

And I'm hearing nothing but horror stories about leveling Blacksmithing.

<sigh> Well - I'm not a quitter, so - back to the grind.

(Rate up for all 3 of you).

Thanks,

With the changes to smelting skill ups it may be faster (though more expensive) to just buy the ore at the AH and smelt for skill. You'll need all the bars to level BSing anyway. You'll still need to mine a bit at some levels but not nearly as much.

Mining in instances is just a nice bonus whilst you are there with the group, but I wouldn't do it exclusively.

The areas that I used whilst levelling are:

Arathi Highlands: Iron/Mithril and the odd Gold here and there.
Badlands: Mithril mainly, just ride around the outskirts.
Un'Goro: Small thorium and also some Rich thorium from the southern region (although I have heard that EPL is better for Rich)

As far as Blacksmithing goes, well let's hope that you have deep pockets. In no way do I regret levelling it to 375, but certain stages are a drain on your wallet. The most memorable was 280-300 due to the amount of thorium that you need. I just couldn't mine enough of it, in a short timeframe.

Good luck!!

Mining in instances = no mount period.

Much faster to find some good zones for mining and maybe once in a while popping into a non-instance "dungeon" to find a few more ore.(you'll see them above ground on your track as well)
