The haste potion recipe dropped last night for me. Is there any reason I should learn it? Isn't it better to just sell it for 500 gold?

My suggestion to you would be to check the price that it cost to make them and how much you can sell them for. If they have a decent profit margin then I would suggest learning it it will pay off in the end.

If you do plan on selling it I would recommend offering it to one of your guild alchys that way you and the guild will get use of it.

It's a high demand consumable for high end raiding guilds. If you can get supplies of terocone and netherbloom it may be a good profit maker. Just do the math, say if the profit margin is 2g / potion then you need to sell 250 potions (50 stacks) before it becomes more profitable to learn the recipe than to sell the recipe. On my server I'd expect to be able to move between 2 and 10 stacks per day at a reasonable margin, so call it 5/day (10 days before it would be more profitable to make & sell pots than to sell the recipe). There is the added benefit of discoveries and procs as well from making pots.

What does the haste potion sell for on servers generally? I looked up the mats on mine and it appears they would cost between 7.5g and 8g.

This website has them selling for 5 gold on average, so maybe I'm missing something?? I don't have any auctioneer data, I've never caught them at auction yet.

What class are you? I suppose that would have a huge impact on learning it or selling it. I personally would use it. Not to mention the potion mastery.

I wouldn't buy the potion itself off the AH. I can't accept the outrageous prices my server has for them when they only last a short period of time.

My shadow priest has the alchemy and my druid has the herbalism...I just mail the mats over. I'm also potion specced. Right now based off the data, it doesn't appear there is any profit margin! But I haven't been able to see any on the ah yet on my server either.

-If those post appears twice I apologize, my original didn't show up.

Rather then trying to find them on the AH to find their price you might try talking to some of the top guilds on your server. If any of them need it you might be able to set up a contract with them. Normally for some of the top end things its far better to try to get these contracts then to bother with the AH.

This is true. I've been selling my Fel Lotuses at an even 20g each on the AH for many months now (it's a serious undercut, but it ensures a fast sale, which is my concern). The AH deposits I've paid so far probably amount to roughly the amount I'd get if I sold another 3-4 Lotuses. But a friend in another raiding guild learned of this tactic of mine, and basically told me he'd buy any Lotuses I wanted to offload for that price. Now it's not a big profit margin, going from 20g on AH to 20g to another dude's face. But over time, the AH fees it'll save me will pile up.

Moral of the story: (Some) Contracts, good.

You can't trust the prices on the site, server economies vary wildly (and the price of Terocone has doubled or tripled on most servers since 2.4, as has the cost of haste potions). In general though, unless you're a Potion Master you should sell the recipe for a good chunk of change.

I am a potion master and I still haven't been able to see one potion on the ah or get a price check so i'm still not sure what to do. I haven't had time to check with guilds either!!

If you can't find any pots on the ah, then that should suggest that people are using them a lot or that no one is making them. Either way, that should mean bank for you. Stay patient, check the ah, and just put up a stack or two for a profit and see what happens.

In my experience, the haste potion recipe is very much in demand. If I were you I'd learn it and cash in on it big time.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am leaning towards learning it. I just don't feel like I should yet until I can get some hard, statistical prices on what they are selling for. I'm hoping somebody will post that info or I can catch it on the auction house one of these years lol!

35g to 45g per stack of 5 on my server. It is driven by Terocone price and availability, so you can base it off that if Haste potions aren't on the AH.

Morth,

Thanks so much. That will at least give me a rough idea so I can check that price against the cost of mats on the AH.
