I`m coming up to the skill lvl where I can choose becoming an armorsmith or weaponsmith. I`m unsure which I`m going to choose atm. I`m a paladin and I`m leaning towards armor, but weapon is looking more and more appealing. If I choose armorsmith and master it, is there a way to unlearn it and do weaponsmith without starting at lvl 1 again? I`m sorry if this has been asked/answered before.

I chose weaponsmith, but just to confirm because all the information I`m reading is a bit confusing... Since I chose weaponsmith, I can craft weaponsmith weapons, and switch to armorsmith at anytime I please(for a price); craft the armorsmith armor for myself, then switch back to weaponsmithing and continue as I was? Hope that wasn't confusing >.<

Also, say I continue with weaponsmithing and then choose to go the sword route... Could I make the special swords then switch to hammer or axesmith at any time for a price? Do I lose recipes and have to rebuy when switching?

I think the only stumbling block is BoP items, you have to have that skill to use/wear the item. Choose what you need to have and go from there

You will no longer be able to use the items AND you will lose all the specialized recipes and need to retrain them.

Out of curiosity, which weapons/armor did you want to make for yourself that would justify paying for that learning and unlearning?

I personally would chose weaponsmith, the chestpiece you get for armoursmithing is one of the best in the game, but as a melee class your weapon is the single most important item for your dps, and the smithed weapons unmatched until you get to the top end of pvp or t6 intances.

If you're good/lucky enough to land a T6 quality 2hander, then its probably a good idea to spec armoursmith.

I went armorsmith on my Warrior because the Chest peice is t6 quality and the weapons can be easily matched with season 2-3 weapons

I say this out of experience. If you are protection spec, do not waste your time and gold training armorsmith or weaponsmith. There are zero epic quality plans for us. Zero.

I went Weaponsmith - Master Swordsmith and the Lionheart Executioner is awesome!! I put the Executioner enchant on it and it is a force to be reckoned with. But to answer your question, if I was to switch to Master Axesmith I would no longer be able to wield my sword as it requires me to be a Master Swordsmith to wield. I would recommend to anyone looking to make a choice to do some research because whatever route you choose is going to be extremely expensive if you don't have time to farm all the mats yourself.

Question related to this: HOW do you get armorsmithing or weaponsmithing?

It appears that the widespread info involving a quest that sends you to ironforge is out of date. I went to the BS trainer in SW, who said I should talk to the weaponsmith trainer in SW to learn weaponsmithing...but he didn't have a quest for me, just some weaponsmithing recipes I was too low level for currently (I'm at 213 bs, the lowest he has is 235). Is there simply no longer a quest? Will training my first WS recipe make me a WS unable to learn armorsmith recipes ? Do I no longer need to track down the limited sale weapon recipes to learn WS? As in, the weapons you were supposed to have to make an turn in to the guy in ironforge.

EDIT: AH, got it, thanks. The text the BS trainer in SW gives you is very misleading. It is very similar to the text the ironforge one gives you, but he simply directs you to the weaponsmith trainer in SW, NOT the weaponsmithing quest-initiator in ironforge.

On the plus side, both limited sale recipes were there when I went to SV :) Now I just have to spend two days running in circles in the badlands and/or tanaris to get all the iron and mithril I need to do this and the mithril order.

The quest is not completely gone. I'm not sure how it works on Alliance side, but on Horde side I had to talk to an individual first and choose which specialty I wanted, then he had me go to the guy who gave me the quest. Check out "The Way of the Weaponsmith", that's the quest you'll have to do as Alliance. I'm just not sure who you have to talk to in order for the quest to be available from that NPC.

EDIT: Aha, there is a post in that quest's thread that explains it. In IF you have to go talk to the Artisan Blacksmith, tell him you want to become a Weaponsmith, and he'll point you toward Ironus Coldsteel (who is apparently right next to him) for the quest.
