Just making sure I'm not missing something here. My mage, who at 59 became my bank alt by default, has been leveling his tailoring to clear out the stacks of runecloth and netherweave that have piled up in the Ogrimmar Savings and Loan deposit branch. I hit 345 and thought -- aha, I can make spellthread and sell some for a pretty penny. Checked a couple of guides which recommended having friends or alts buy the recipes from Aldor and Scryer. My 70, who is aldor, flew down to the quartermaster last night and found...they're BOP. So my mage will need to grind to Honored to even get one of the two recipes?

That's correct.
You need honored with Aldor to make the Silver spellthread (best suited for healers), and honored with Scryers to make the Mystic (best suited for dps spellcasters).
To make the epic quality versions you will need exalted reputation with either faction. Your mage will need to be level 60 in order to accept the quest from Khadger in Shat to choose which faction you wish to become allied with, but you can then supply your alt with the items to turn in for rep, so it might not be that difficult to get to honored. Especially with Scryer as those signets and what not seem to be rampant with the SSO dailies.

Thanks. It shouldn't be that tough to get the mage to honored once I have him ding 60, but it's not the immediate gratification I was looking for when I logged on last night to quickly crank out some spellthread, make 500g and get to 350 tailoring. Sniff. Pseudo-life is hard.

No real grinding - just turn in rings and you're set.
