I recently created a new character and took up enchanting as a skill, what other skill do i get?
Whatever you want.
What class did you make?
Do you want to be able to make things for that class?
No one can really make that decision for you, but with more information someone might be able to make suggestions with reasons why.

Herbalism - healps with making Oils
Mining - helps with getting mats for rods
BS - make actual rods (from mining mats)
Tailor - Cloth is so plentiful and you can easily create a bunch of stuff to DE for mats.
Inscription - so you can sell your enchants on the AH, or send them to alts.

I think enchanting with a cloth wearer goes well with tailoring , reason being cheap and plentiful supplies of things to disenchant and of course you get the decent armour and the mats are everywhere waiting to be collected.
Depending on class and depending if you want to farm or create things will make it easier for us to help give answers , enchanting needs a lot of armour/weapons to disenchant so a creative trade would go well but that would mean if you wear leather/mail/plate you would need to buy mats for them.
Otherwise i would pick mining or skinning , or perhaps herbs are the new real gold maker , what i did was create a Mage for Enchanting/Tailoring and a Hunter with herbs/inscription they make a great team.
