Was checking through PTR 3.0.3 patch notes (which will probably be live today when server downtime is done) Among them is one thing:

Quote:
The level requirements required to train gathering skills have been removed.

level 1 that can mine, herb, or skin their way to 375... assuming the mob doesn't get the player first. And what about enchanting, does it count as gathering skill? You gather greens, DE it then sell it to make money.

I thought the level requirement had already been removed for gathering professions.

Getting a level 1 character to 375 gathering skill would probably be impossible. At the very least, you would get XP from discovering zones that you have to progress into for higher level mobs to skin.

Enchanting is a crafting profession, with the side benefit of a gathering profession built in. So no, I don't see them removing the level requirement for enchanting unless they do so for all the crafting professions, which I really doubt they'll do.

I originally thought that there wasn't a limit to gathering profession leveling, but turns out that there was. Oh well, it really doesn't matter too much as you won't see a level 5 in outlands leveling their herbalism or skinning. And they will not be making it for crafting professions, most likely ever unless they added level requirements to all of the items (BoP included) so that twinks wouldn't be so far ahead.

Very possible for mining. You can get most of the levels by smelting. I'm not sure on the exact number, but somewhere in the range of 20-30 skill points need to be actually be harvested instead of smelted. For those, you can have a high level lock and a few friends summon you to the points needed.

There wasn't, and then they put it in on 3.0 I believe. The reason they did so is because they didn't want low levels leveling their mining/herb/skinning up and getting the new buffs to harvesting skills they put in.

If they didn't want low levels (read X9 twinks) leveling thier gather skills for the buff then they would have left the level cap instead of removing it.

The fun irony is that I'm sure a certain number of the dumber twinks are going to end up knocking themselves out of thier bracket via discovery XP or unavoidable combat with mobs as they try to max out a gathering skill. Smiley: lol
