#1 Jan 04 2009 at 3:41 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, you guys. I just started playing WoW, and I wondered how I can start learning cooking skills!? I tried talking to the cooking instructor, but everything he had was marked in red. Am I supposed to take some flesh and hold it over a fire, or something like that?! Plz help me!
thx :)

And yeah, I am quite a noob.

Once you hit lvl 5, go to the cooking instructor. Precisely where they are depends on where your character is located. There is usually one in the first village outside the newbie starting area. Additionally there is one in every major city - just ask a city guard and they'll send you to the right location.

I also recommend you train fishing (again instructors are in the major cities) and buy a fishing pole, as the fish you catch will help you level your cooking.

Sorry, anything associated to that Nyhm spammer is not wanted here.

When you first learn cooking, you are given a few basic recipes right away that you can start using to level your skill. Most will require that you be near a fire, and some will require spices that you can buy from cooking supplies vendors. Items that appear in red from the trainer mean that you have to have a higher skill than what you currently have.

To start off cooking I think everyone is told to make some bread or something. Just buy the flour and spices and go to town.

if not already known, once you train to be a cook, a new spell will be available on the front pae of your spellbook, open this to see a list of the cooking recipies you know, start making them until they are all green or grey and talk to the trainer again, with your higher skill there should be more cooking recipies available from the trainer.

Hey - guess what? If you make the bread, which requires flour and spices that you can purchase from the NPC right next to the trainer usually, you can sell it immediately for nearly what you paid for the flour and spices. So, use it to level as high as you can go until it turns grey.

Or, do what was suggested by someone else and learn fishing - the brilliant smallfish are the lowest I think and you can cook them at level 1 cooking. Fishing is a bit frustrating until you reach level 15 or so because you will get a lot of "your fish got away" messages even with a lure on. Just stick with it. Buy the fishing pole and the lowest level lure from the NPC next to the fishing trainer. Apply the lure while the pole is still in your bag by right clicking on it and then left clicking on the pole. Then equip the pole.

To fish, get the fishing icon from the spellbook and put it on an action bar and then click on it. When the bobber "bobs" right click on it. If you fish in a major city you will get rested exp while you fish and you will catch fish you can cook. Keep one thing in mind - the highest level cooking recipes make food with very nice buffs, and "well-fed" buffs are required by any good raiding guild. To get cooking to that level you will be best served by cooking fish because there is one point in the leveling where it is very difficult to level with meat.

To get the recipes to cook the fish, come here to Allakhazam and type the name of the fish in the search bar. Then click on "Recipe: Brilliant Smallfish" and it will tell you who and where it's sold. For instance, Catherine Leland (NPC) sells it in Stormwind City. Hover the cursor over her name and see a map of SW with her location. Can't get any easier than that!

Good Luck!
