I decided to take up herbalism/inscription with my DK, and noticed that at both 300 and 375 skill, I didn't need to go back to a trainer to learn the next level...what's up with that? Is that the case with all gathering professions now, or is it just a bug with herbalism?

Interesting. My herbalism is capped at 300 now because I haven't visited Outland trainers to get the next skill level for it. I tell myself I need to get out there and raise the cap, but I'm still working on vanilla content hehe.

Good luck to you!

Well, when I hit both 300 and 375, I thought the skillups would stop until I could get back to the trainer, but no, I kept getting skillups and I'm now somewhere in the ~420 range.

For that matter, I don't remember if I had to see the trainer at 225, but I don't actually recall doing it.

Wish I had this "problem."

My warrior's herbalism has been stuck at 315 for ages. (Tauren racial bonus) He just hit 55 the other day but it's been at 315 since . . .oh . . . lvl 45 or so I think. The trainers got nothing for me. And I'm constantly harvesting green/yellow level herbs.

His alchemy, fisrt aid, and cooking are real close to the 300 mark as well.

I don't know where this Outland place is.

My 52 warlock has the same issue with skinning being stuck at 300 for, seems like, the last 15 levels or so.

I'm hoping at some point something in-game will point me to these other places I keep hearing about so I can start skilling up again.

I don't know if you are being sacastic or not, so I'm treating this as if you are not. You need to have "The Burning Crusades" expansion installed. Then you can go through the Dark Portal in Blasted Lands once you hit level 58. If you have a toon under level 58, you can have a mage port you to Shattrath (neutral city in Outlands) or have a lock summon you out there.

No, I wasn't being sarcastic.

I'm just new to the game. I have, however, played a lot of other games. Ones with expansions even and it seems that usually when an expansion is put in that adds entire new areas there is some update to the vanilla material indicating such.

Being new and starting 2 expansions in, it's all vanilla to me really. But I would have thought that if a toon needs to go to . . .Shattrath you said? to update their training that the existing vanilla trainers might mention something along those lines.

I guess for people who are leveling toon #27 it's just common knowledge that that's what you do. But from a new player standpoint just coming to the game . . .I bought the expansions and installed them but at level 55 there has still not been a single word in game indicating anything about that content. If not for message boards like these, I wouldn't even know Shattrath existed. I don't even see it on the map.

Northrend, I can see on the map but have no idea how to get to.

I guess all I'm saying is that it shouldn't have been that hard to code in a chunk of dialogue for the trainers so that after you've reached the 300 level they say somthing like "I can train you no further. You must seek out the Dark Portal to see what lies beyond." Or something.

I guess it's just frustrating being in such a huge game and feeling like if I don't constantly scour forums and wikis and guides I'll never get anywhere. The Blasted Lands? I mean, I'm not even entirely sure where that is though I think I have been in there briefly for a warrior quest to kill some hyenas or something. But I didn't see anything indicating it was the gateway to an entire other contintent so never would have thought or bothered to go back judging from strictly in-game information. There are still probably a dozen zones I've never even stepped foot in.

I probably would have wandered around for weeks trying to figure out how to "get to Shat" like everybody keeps saying. So thank you.

First off, Pantherfern, welcome to WoW. Trainers used to tell you who you needed to see next in order to progress your tradeskill, but in a number of situations lately I have not had them tell me whom to seek out next (cooking book, first aid book, etc.). Still, as you say, I have played through this content quite a few times before, and either know where to find them or know where to find the information on where they are.

But as to Ambrya, consider yourself lucky in that you continue to get skillups without visiting the trainer. Much like another poster in this thread, my skills are capped and are not improving (as they shouldn't) despite picking herbs that are yellow or orange to me. Same thing goes with my young scribe. Skill level 300 (character level 41), scribing orange inscriptions and no skillup.

Ambrya, will you buy me a lottery ticket, please? *grin*
