Rift Q&A: Hartsman Discusses River of Souls Event

Rift's first worldwide, fully dynamic event is scheduled to kick off tomorrow, March 30 (update: at 8 a.m. PDT), which is less than one month after the game's March 1 launch. This ambitious event will last for about a week and contain something for everyone; players of all levels will be able to fight invasions of the undead army in every zone to ultimately unlock a permanent level 50 20-player raid zone and bring the fight directly to Alsbeth the Discordant, the right hand of Regulos the Destroyer.

As part of Update 1.1, this event kicks off a brand new scale for Rift's dynamic content. Editor-in-Chief Darryl "Togikagi" Gangloff had the chance to sit down with Trion Worlds CCO and Rift Executive Producer Scott Hartsman to discuss the event and what it means for the future of the game.

Bristlebane Day Returns!

The Grand Prankster is out in force as Bristlebane Day returns to Norrath on March 29th. This year's event features two new quests, one of which is available on April 1st only, and a new tradeskill collection. Players can help fend off a pirate, defeat the Rat King and be puzzled by the sphinx's riddles.

Decorators should get a laugh out of the latest recipe scroll, Perfectly Serious Items to Craft II, available at your local Bristlebane Day merchant. Also featured in the merchant's inventory are three new house tiles.

Keep track of all your alts throughout the event with our Bristlebane Day Quest Tracker!

Fansites Embrace ZAM Rift's Tooltip Code

As our database grows more and more fansites are using our tooltip code, which allows sites to display item tooltips from the ZAM Rift database.  Sites like Riftjunkies.com and Massively.com are enjoying the funcationality of this simple tool.  Simply add the script tag to your pages, and when the script detects a link to a ZAM item for which we display mouseovers, your site will automatically display them.

You can find complete information on this simple and elegant tool on our Rift Tooltips page!

Chronoportals Event Celebrates Norrath's History

EverQuest II takes part in the celebration of 12 years of EverQuest with the Chronoportals live event. Ancient portals take players back in time to battle creatures of a distant past. Several of these encounters have memorable dialogues that any former EverQuest player can appreciate.

Whether you're looking for the chronoportal that Quillmane dwells within or need some help defeating the Nagafen's Lair encounter, our Chronoportals guide has it all. The event will run until 10am PDT on March 30, 2011.

Qho's Brewday Adventures!

Many adventurers and crafters have had the misfortune of crossing Qho Augren's path while working on the Gathering Obsession series. The infamous brat of Mara nagged us to bring him back more and more harvests every time we returned to him. Yet we put up with his nagging just so we could earn the Cloak of the Harvester, and once that was obtained, we hoped to never lay our eyes on him again.

However, in Destiny of Velious he worms his way back into our lives. Any level 90 crafter who had assisted him in the past receives a letter in the mail from him begging for us to pay him a visit. With much chagrin many of us returned to Qho, who is still swimming in the pond at the Village of Shin, only to be once again sent out to get him even more harvests. We embarked on the Return of a Gathering Obsession, again in hopes that it would sate his interests once and for all.

Upon returning to Qho with our heavy sacks of harvests, we then learned he's managed to convince his mother that we would be the perfect guardian for him to take a trip to Velious with! Much to our amusement, he becomes a pet that follows us around. While I'm sure many people had fun jumping off of cliffs with him in tow, or battling the nastiest of beasts, I saw the opportunity to teach Qho more about harvesting.

Coincidentally Brewday was just around the corner when I picked up Qho from his mother. Continue reading for my tale of Qho's adventures learning all about Brewday and, finally earning the respect of the local Bar of Brell patrons so that he could harvest from their special gardens.

Ex-Hacker Finds RIFT Account Flaw, Talks to ZAM

For the past two weeks, the RIFT community has been rocked by a seemingly endless onslaught of accounts being compromised. Account security is an incredibly touchy subject with MMO players, and once it became apparent that this was an epidemic rather than a handful of occurrences, fansites like ZAM were blamed as part of, as Trion put it, a “witch hunt” by some members of the community.

The culprit behind a portion of the account debacle was tracked down by a member of the RIFT community that ignored all of the speculation going on around him and put real effort into making RIFT a safer place to play. Known only as ManWitDaPlan on the RIFT forums (and Webmaka on ZAM’s own forums), he exposed the flaw with the aid of several other committed RIFTers. Trion quickly found his post, contacted him directly, and within hours had the exploit fixed. The entire community, including all of us at ZAM, breathed a huge sigh of relief.

UPDATE: Trion speaks out and clears the air about ManWitDaPlan's find.

Over the last few hours, we’ve managed to reach out to MaWitDaPlan and get his side of the story, find out what his background is, and see what he thinks of the future of RIFT. We hope you enjoy this exclusive interview!
