SOE Live: EverQuest II - Q&A Recaps

At SOE Live 2014, the EverQuest II audience had questions and the devs had answers! ZAM was there to keep track of what the community wanted to know. Senior Producer Holly Longdale was joined by Akil "Lyndro" Hooper, Kyle "Kander" Vallee, Carlos "Gninja" Mora, Nathan "Kaitheel" McCall, Michael "Xelgad" Ganz, Robert "Caith" Fouts, Dave "Maevianiu" Kish, and many other EQ2 devs to answer questions. If you missed it, here's a recap of what happened during the question and answer session after the EverQuest II keynote, as well as the AMAA Sessions Part 1 & Part 2.

EverQuest II: Systems Panel Recap

The EverQuest II Systems and Mechanics panel revealed many exciting things in store for the upcoming expansion, Altar of Malice, and beyond.

Eorzea Examiner #21: Alternative Advancement

Hello and welcome to the twenty first edition of the Eorzea Examiner, ZAM's column on Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For this week's column, we're going to be talking about character advancement. We're all familiar with the basic leveling system as we go from fledgling level 1s to the current cap of 50. The question is: can we have progression after we hit level cap?

SOE Live 2014: EverQuest and EverQuest II

SOE Live kicked off its opening ceremony last night, and while the keynotes are still to come this afternoon, we have some great information on the upcoming expansions and more for EverQuest and EverQuest II!

Eorzea Examiner #20: Inspiration From Nexus, Pt. 3

Hello and welcome to the twentieth edition of the Eorzea Examiner, ZAMs column on Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For this weeks column, we're going back to look at the recently released MMO from Carbine Studios, WildStar. The last couple times we took a look at WildStar, I pointed out areas of their game design that I thought FFXIV could learn from and incorporate into Eorzea. This column’s going to be a little bit different. We’ll still be talking about something I’d like to see brought over from WildStar to FFXIV, but it’s something Carbine still needs to work on: Adventures.

Landmark Founder Pack Discounts: Right or Wrong?

Sony Online Entertainment launched a 48-hour Steam sale on their Landmark Founder's Packs yesterday. According to the official forums (as well as reddit and Twitter), this sale left a bitter taste in some people's mouths.

When it comes to controversial topics such as this (especially as an active member in SOE's gaming community), I try to be fair and see it from both sides of the coin. Sometimes we need to take a deep breath and put down the pitchfork for a moment, while other times we are completely justified in feeling wronged and slighted. Unfortunately, this sale seems to fall in a grey area no matter how I look at it.

Destiny Hands-On Preview

If youve been following either the Playstation 4 or Xbox One, youre likely familiar with Bungies Destiny. For many of us, that was the big “you need these new consoles” title announced. The folks behind the original Halo trilogy were back with not just another first-person shooter, but their own take on expanding the genre. While the September 9th release date is still over a month away, Bungie has been bringing in players for alpha and beta testing of its game. Last week we had the first round of beta testing for prospective PS3/PS4 players, and this week the Xbox fans will get their chance to try it out. After some time with the alpha and quite a bit more with the beta, Im ready to talk about my impressions of the game thus far.

Eorzea Examiner #19: Classes and Jobs, Part 2

Hello and welcome to the nineteenth edition of the Eorzea Examiner, ZAMs column on Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. For this weeks column, we’ll be looking at new combat jobs. The Final Fantasy series has a plethora of class and job options from previous games that have yet to show up in the world of Eorzea. Many of those jobs will likely show up in one form or another as patches and expansions are released further down the road. Of course, these jobs will need some tweaking from their original designs to fit with the holy trinity of tank, healer and DPS; you may have been able to take down Chaos with four White Mages in the first FF game, but that’s not going to fly here.
