Feast of Swords

Master, you have to help us, kupo! Have you heard of the Feast of Swords? It's a Far Eastern festival that celebrates the health and growth of boys. People decorate with huge flags in the shape of fish, and dress their sons in fancy armor, kupo. There are also lots of magical, yummy goodies to eat, of course... Oops, talking about festivals always distracts me, kupo! After the slight hiccup with the Doll Festival, the M.H.M.U. decided to hold a festival that appealed to the male half of the adventuring population. We sought the advice of a distinguished samurai, and began preparing for the Feast of Swords, kupo. Our samurai adviser kindly brought in some sets of legendary armor from the Far East to lend an authentic feel to the event. That's when our problems began, kupo... Someone--or something--broke into our vaults and stole the suits of armor, kupo! Now the very same criminals have donned their ill-gotten costumes, infused them with their tainted auras, and are rampaging around the countryside! We took the bad news to the samurai and this is what he said, kupo: "I borrowed those suits of armor from the noble Genji family, a famous line of samurai. While I doubt that any blade could even raise a scratch, any damage to these rare and valuable artifacts could develop into a diplomatic nightmare. However, I believe that the evil entities corrupting the armor can be driven out through the use of specially blessed wooden katana. There is no other way to solve this dilemma." We must retrieve those suits of armor intact before the Feast of Swords is over. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder for retribution-seeking ninja assassins from the Far East, kupo! The M.H.M.U. put the festival preparations on hold to order a mountain of wooden katana. Please help us, kupo! Talk to an M.H.M.U. moogle to get your weapon, and then receive a special blessing from the nomad moogles outside town. Take the fight to those thieving scoundrels! The peace of Vana'diel--and the fate of the moogles--rests on your shoulders, kupo! [Event Participation] -Speak to the moogles in three main nations to receive Wooden Katana. -Characters will be eligible to participate in the event by talking to the moogles around the three main nations. -Players wishing to rejoin the event must speak to the moogles once more. -A level restriction will be imposed during event participation. Please be aware that any equipment that exceeds the level restriction will be unequipped automatically. -Characters who are KO'd during event participation will not lose experience points. -Characters will be unable to attack or be attacked by normal monsters while the level restriction is in effect. *This event is scheduled to begin at 17:00 on April 27 and end at 0:00 on May 9 (PDT). ------------------------------------------------------------

Good Morning.

I ran around like a fool for several hours last night and just wanted to give some additional information.

First, you talk to the moogle in town. They will give you a wooden katana. Then, in some zones (I happened to be in W. Ron), there's a nomad moogle who will cap you to level one. This cap will only happen if you have the wooden katana equiped. The level cap will stay until you zone. (There may be other ways like temp loggin, but I didn't try it.) As it happened, my first time out was bst/whm as I was going to level. This worked out well as wide scan becomes invaluable. In wide scan, the armors will be listed and you can track them. If you don't have wide scan, run around like an idiot looking for a wave of people, and head towards the point.

Not only do they run fast, they run a LOT until eventually stopping. I'm not sure if someone can attack them head on to get them to stop, but as everyone is running behind them, you'd need spotters up ahead.

Tip: If you have wide scan on, look at the map and try to guess where they'll head, based on obstacles. I found it better to never run directly at them, but try to cut them off at the pass.

After my first round of beatings, I believe I was present, but didn't have the killing blow, for two taru deaths and another beating. I'm unsure if this effects anything, but my TP was 6%. I then returned to the moogle in town and when I traded my katana, I received the Hardened Katana.

I switched to rng/thf (hoping for more accuracy and boosted wide scan) and then started running again. After several beat downs, I traded it again for the stacks of mochi. They are based on the armors you clobbered.

Note: The hardened katana cannot be used to beat on armors. Or, at least, you can't get level cap with it equiped. I did notice that I could change my weapon, but still keep the level cap. I didn't try hitting an armor with a different weapon, however. So if there's a weapon that gives you a speed boost or some other fun effect, you might be able to use it, then switch to wooden katana for the beat down.

I hope this helps someone.

About what you said involving TP, I don't think it matters. You can't gain TP while hitting these guys because your never doing damage, the Enthunder (I know it isn't, but you all know what I mean) is doing the damage. So you probably got that 6% TP from being smacked a few times, which probably doesn't affect what the moogle gives you. /shrug Just my 2-cents.

Well after running around south Gustaberg with my linkshell yelling " DROP THE T.V !" and " LAPD FREEZE! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!" at the damn thing. I decided to have fun.

I was mnk/rng so we found one with nobody on it yet, hundred fists with the wooden katana and I got my hardwood first trade. I haven't done a second trade yet for any mochi so I don't know if it'll earn me any.

Back to armor beating, I'm going to hunt for taru this time!

ok, i've just done this and am almost certain you get it from performing a killing blow. i was counting hits and did 13 on one kind of armour, 14 and a kill on another. no mochi, one hardwood katana. as for the enthunder effect it looks like you get the animation but not the damage.

I had no idea about the event when I first saw it and followed the armor around thinking someone had pulled the ultimate noob-*****-- pulling a claimed empty NM through RONFAURE? It was sitting there claimed and acting like it was pathfinding so I thought some invisible player was leading it around. I laughed pretty hard when I figured it out.

Got my Hardwood Katana... fought the Elvaan and the Galka in West Sarutabaruta, turned in for 12 Elvaan, 5 Galka Mochi. Then I went to East Sarutabaruta, and spent about an hour and a half going armor-herding. We downed three elvaans, a hume, and a galka armor, or at least, I landed blows on one that died.

It seems that whenever you can say to yourself, "When I turn it in this time, I'm gonna get a $^@^^$# of a lot of mochi!", you get it. I was expecting about three stacks of Elvaan mochi alone on my turn in, and just wound up with katana. Hope this is enough to help people get theirs...

The message when you get your hardwood is something to the tune of "Wow, your katana has absorbed so much aura that we can transform it into a new weapon, kupo! Go try it out!" So... maybe just go a long while without turning in to get a katana, guaranteed?

Not sure what the exact requirements are to get the HW Katana. I was out killing in West Ron. for about 40 minutes with a full alliance of totally random people (it was great, bunch of us having fun and getting to know each other as we all auto-followed the RNGs). After I died I turned in my Katana, got 12ea of the Mochi for Elvaan, Hume, Galka, and 5ea Taru Mochi. We figured out that the amount of damage we did to the armors got us Mochi.

Went back out, killed for 30min more, same thing, got a ton of Mochi.

Concerned that our mog houses would start to overflow with useless junk, we figured we needed to do lots more...then someone in our alliance who turned in her katana with 34/35 items in her inventory suddenly just got the HW Katana.

I did the same thing, went back to town, had 34/35 inventory, and viola, I got it <laugh>.

I've had some fun playing with it...Lv 1 Dmg 5 Delay 450 *All Jobs*

Think about that - All Jobs. You could have your WHM running around with an enthunder-effect (who knows, maybe it does more damage vs. things that are weak to lightning?) Great Katana...I think that'd be great to see in Valkrum, etc :-)

Happy Hunting out there!

When you use the Hardwood Katana on regular mobs. The eletrify visual effect is still there. However, there's no actual additional damage. Still looks pretty cool though.

I got the Hardwood Katana on my first try. Went out, saw all the running people and said to myself, "Holy crap, it's a fluid mass of stampeding Lv1 people!" So, I did the Moogle thing, equipped my katana, and followed them. We spent about 20 minutes killing two of the armors, and I went back to trade in my aura.

I think I probably landed the final blow on one of them since I busted out Mighty Strikes just for the heck of it. That could be why I got the Hardwood Katana so quickly.

I don't see any lightning effect when I whack things with it, though. =/

I played around in Sarutabaruta for about three hours, and have accumulated several stacks of Elvaan and Galka Mochi, but still no Hardwood Katana.

We all had a teriffic time, and I intend to do it again tomorrow.

What's so unfair is that I want this hardwood Katana so badly, yet here I see people who have gotten one, and complain that it's a useless piece of junk. Ingrates!

Man, this event is so friggin hilarious. You find a nice RNG or BST, someone with Wide Scan, and you follow them around. Then when somebody actually sees the armor you chase it as fast as you can with about 30 other people, wait for it to stop leaving you in the dust, and then you go up and beat the snot out of it ^^. Then it runs off again and you take up the chase once more ^^.

I was giggling the whole time I was doing this event, you hear these shouts like

/sh Hachiryu Armor at (G-7) heading Northeast!

and everyone makes a mad dash for g-7, but by the time they get there it's already at h-9... and heading Southwest ^^. Man, this is good fun.

    I got a hardwood katana for my troubles too, but no mochi yet ; ;

A fun event indeed. Seeing 50 lvl 1s chase down a freaking fast mob then surrounding it is hilarious.

I got some good screenshots and alot of mochi. . . makes me think SE is run by petifiles that like to see little boys and girls running around.

I'll go after that Hardwood +1 tomorrow, but I was hoping for better prizes - can you say lvl 1 Samurai AF-looking armor ^^

To get the Hardwood Katana you have to get the killing hit on one of the armors you fight. Well, thats how i think it works because i fought my first Armor, the Elvaan in S.Gusta and after it died i went straight to the moogle at Bastok Markets and traded the regular Wooden Katana you start quest with. Instead of those foods which some of you received, i obtained the Katana itself.

The stats of the Hardwood Katana is:
dmg:5 delay 450 and all jobs can use
On a side note, i went to Sauromugue Champaign the sword seems to have Enthunder property.

I got the HW Katana even thought I know I didn't get any killing blows...Just alot of normal ones. As a taru, all my attacks did 0 damage (+1 for AE)...and I seriously doubt that in the last hit on any of them. It seems to be simply a reward for tons of hits that actually connect.

    can be fun :)
step 1.) get 5 friends into a party
step 2.) all of you go mnk/sam
step 3.) surround one of them
    step 4.) Hundred Fists
step 5.) THERE IS NO STEP FIVE

    thank you

extra clarification - you leave the wooden katana equipped while using the monk 2 hour, not attempting to strike the armor with your fists, that would be extremely pointless and I'm not sure how somebody would actually get the idea that I meant anything other than the monk 2 hour, unless of course they had never played FFXI before, or were extremely new... to which I will give said individual the benefit of the doubt. -_-

To clarify, you're not harming them with your fists, Hundred Fists is the Monk 2 hour, which reduces your attack delay to 0... you keep using the wooden katana. I realize that somebody decided to rate down there because they hadn't thought things through on that, but seriously... try using that thing between your ears. I've tested this and it works.

The hardwood katana you get in this event can be very usefull if you dont have SAM or NIN jobs leveled yet and plan to have it. Since G Katana is only usable by these classes you only can get weapon skillups when you are actually playing these jobs. With hardwood katana you can equip it on your highest level job and go on the killing rampage giving you tons of skills in G Katana before you start leveling SAM or NIN :)

All I have to say, is that this event is freaking awesome.
And I think this might be SE's cruel way of getting revenge on us for training monsters. That's why they run so fast. Today I was in a bunch of groups. The first was of about 20 people. Not really organized, just running. Then one of the armors ran into us so we started to attack it, and the group following that one joined with us. So now there's around 30 of us. Thirty people ganging up on one mob is a pretty incredible site. We were killing the armors the first time they stopped running and fought.

Then I left and came back to follow a group of 4. We took out a bunch of the taru armors. And then it killed us when it used a skill that knocked us all down to 1. Cleaned us up real nice.

So then I HP'd to town, I got 12 taru cakes, 12 galka cakes, 5 hume cakes and 4 elvaan cakes. I want to say that it probably has something to do with the amount of hits you get (duh) but how the heck do you get the hardwood???

This was in Lakshmi, South Gustaberg, about an hour ago.

Negative. There were several BST mains out tonight, and i heard charm going off a lot, but the NMs choose when they will stop to fight. The charmers were taking most of the aggression, but charm when it starts running away will not make it come back.
