The Starlight Celebration is almost upon us! And with the beginning of the festival close at hand, the "smilebringers" have appeared in cities all over Vana'diel. Who are these enigmatic smilebringers and what is their connection to the celebration? Okay, a few things I've noticed about this event:

1> You do not lose "joy fame" by portaling to other towns. To check your "joy fame" level, just talk to the Moogle that originally gave you the letters quest. Once you hit "ludicrous" level, you have maxed out your "joy fame". This fame is not town dependent, but instead exists for all towns in one stat. So giving presents in Sandy affects the same "joy fame" level as giving ones in Windurst.

2> You must wait a Vana'diel day before you can do another tree quest or get another free gift from the "Smilebringers".

3> I have yet to receive the Dream Hat +1, but it appears to be related to: Having a tree in your moghouse layout with a high joy fame and then waiting several Vana'diel days.

i had a tad bit of joy when i teleported from sandy to bastok and when i checked the moogle there it said im slacking in joy. so either teleporting takes away your fame or its different for all 3 nations.

I definately saw my "joy" fame go from "ludicrus" to "ridiculus" to "barrels" by teleporting between towns. I warped, checked fame, warped, etc. I spent a "ludicrus" amount of gil for a "ridiculus" number of presents trying to max it in each town....oh well :( ...and finally just waited in my mog after seeing it was back to max joy and got my +1 dream hat....yay :)

i started the quest last night; got the dream hat and the sandy tree. at about 4am my time there was a 30 min maintenance tho in all the cities doing the christmas quest. I would like to point out that things have been adjusted. Some of the letter Children are different. We are still working on getting the second christmas tree. traded a stack of gifts and still nothing. Maybe you have to wait till the next day now? *sigh* silly updates

EDIT!:: you now have to wait a day between each tree!! silly updates. dunno how many gifts you need to trade tho for each quest.

ok heres my scoop. i did the dream hat and got all christmas trees last night. one can only do one tree per vandial day. today i did bastok tree and sandy tree quest again .. got some cool fireworks, i traded all my gifts i bought a stack of the most expensive last night. after i traded the stack of gifts i walked into mog house and presto i got my dream hat +1.. happy hoildays and remember tis the season of giving have fun^^

Ok... im aggrivated... I've given out over 100 presents, i have the tree in my mog house... Still no Dream hat +1. Am i doing something wrong? I wonder if this is a lottery type thing.... Hmm... Can someone please help!!!

***COMPLETELY OFF-TOPIC but relavent....
-I'm bastokan and I talked to the Outpost Warp-NPC in San d'Oria... He said that if i get 10 of some item ("Sparkling Hand?" Darn my memory... should have wrote it down...) That he can Outpost Warp me to *any* Outpost?? Also, this service will only be available until the end of the Starlight Celebration.... O.o Any details on this would be greatly appreciated, as I don't even know where to start, quite frankly, I think I'm the first one in Asura to notice this... I'll do more experimenting....

The fireworks you need are based on your nationality.

I belive the item your talking about is brilliant snow, a type of firework. You can get these from the A.H if none there you can also do the tree quest over every hour. Instead of a tree he gives you anywhere from 4-10 brilliant snow. Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Any outpost, regardless who is under control of the area. Meaning you still have to do the Supplies quest for it.

Sparkling Hand is a firework. At the time I checked it, mine was Brilliant Snow. So it looks to be random depending on day maybe?

I went to mog house and mog said he found a present under my windurstian tree!
Special present RARE/EX yellowish orange tint~
Don't know what it does. Cannot trade to Mog, "Santa" Taru or Tree giver Mithra. nor any child in windurst. If you know what it does, post it... if not, I'll post when i figure it out >.>

You, my kottonmouth friend, hold a Dream Hat +1 in your very hands! Use it as you would a "Scroll of Instant Warp", a "Meat Mithkabob" or even a synthesis crystal. It will open and you will have the cookie-giving hat in your inventory!

Ack. I can't get Tree Talker to give me the quest. He just keeps saying he can't "fraternize with the likes of" me. :P I did the other two tree quests with no problem. What's this guy's deal? Do I have to do something before talking to him to get the quest started?

EDIT: figured it out. You can do the whole set of quests without spending a dime. Once you have the Dream Hat, you can start doing the tree quests. You should have the special present from the smilemaker. Give that to any kid that accepts it. The quest moogle will tell you that you've brought a "tad bit" of joy to the kids, but that' fine. It's enough to do the tree quest in the area you're in and teleport to the next area. Once there, hang out at the smilemaker's area until the clock strikes 0:00. Talk to the smilemaker to get the special present and give it to the first elligible kid you come across. Now you can activate the tree quest in the area you're in and have enough joy leftover to teleport to the next spot. Rinse. Repeat. ^^

To raise X-mas Fame, u need to buy Gifts from the NPC with the RED HAT and trade the gift to the children NPC all over the city...

people do ask can u trade it to 1 same NPC... I would said... yes/no.

then.. the whole idea is to bring joy to the children of Vana'diel... so I guess try both way...

I also tried trade 2 gift @ once... the only accept 1 per trade.

also the X-mas Moogle will need this X-mas Fame to warp u to other city.

Few things to note

The +1 hat dispenses Ginger cookies

To obtain this hat, you have to trade enough gifts to the children to raises your Xmas fame up to the max, then when you zone into your mog house. Your mog will say something along the lines of "Master, a present was left under your tree" So go place your trees and spread some holiday love (gonna cost a bit heard the mog tells you fame, he wont tell me mine)

This is a particularly interesting way to remove money from the economy of Vana'diel--voluntary deflation by spreading joy to the children.

It's also a good way to get you to talk to people since you got CoP...

Holiday Trees

I just repeated the Windurst Holiday Tree quest for the first time and I got the following:

Obtained: 2 popstars!
Clear time: 6 minutes 33 seconds.
THe current clear time record for "the Windurst Walls course" is 3 minutes 2 seconds.

Apparently you can't keep getting trees over and over. Perhaps you can, but you might have to beat the current record in order to get it. I'm not sure. Maybe it has something to do with your joy? I only passed out a stack of the cheap gifts and two of the special ones before repeating the tree quest...

I'm off to teleport back to Sandy to set up my tree. :) I'll see if I can get the Dream Hat +1 by passing out more presents with the tree up...

Also, here's a breakdown of the Windurst NPCs for the Dream Hat quest (dunno if you can do it once in each city...):

EDIT: I saw another post on this and the kids you have to talk to may be random. :P sorry.

Moogle in Windurst Woods @ gate to East Sarutabaruta (tells you about kids and the red hat guy).
Komomo in Windurst Walls @ C-6 (gives Letter of Gratitude)
Purakoko in Windurst Walls @ F-7 (gives Letter of Joy)
Hororo in Windurst Waters @ G-8 (gives Letter of Thanks)
Atagei-Portagei in Windurst Waters @ E-5 (red hat guy, sells presents, gives Dream Hat and special presents once per Vana'diel day)

I have Dream Hat +1! it's the bomb! it dispenses 6 Ginger Cookies every 24 hours.

To get it, simply put the Christmas Trees in your mog house. wait a day (real or game i'm not sure as i slept^^--so i could have been game or 10PM EST) then talk to mog and he'll say he found a gift under the tree. he will give you an item "Special Present" that is RARE/EX. go outside and use it. BOOM! watch the beautiful fireworks and the little santa.. hehe. then you now obtained Dream Hat +1. enjoy and hope you have fun^^

Z'anyone care to illucidate on how specifically to aquire these mysterious trees? I'm assuming it has to do with the amount of joy you bring to the children of Vana'diel. As of now I have brought "carriages of ludicrous amounts of joy"... or something to that degree in all three cities. Unfortunately I had to go to quit playing when I got to that point. I have read that you have to keep giving until the npc children will no longer accept gifts (max joy). Will this then trigger events with the Market Moogles with which you can obtain the trees?

I can confirm that the Dream Hat +1 Exists. I just sat in San'doria and saw a "Dream Hat +1 failed to activate" in my chatlog, have a screenshot if you demand one. Too bad you can't see who's tried to activate it, otherwise I would've asked him ;)

Talk to the Smilebringer npc (The guy with the red hat). He will give you a present.

Now go talk to the Moogle (in Sandy, it was in South Sandy where it was for the Halloween event) to be told where to find the children (For me it was 1 in South, none in North and 2 in Port).

Talk to all the children in those areas and eventually you will recieve 3 letters (Joy, Gratitude, and Thanks). Note which child gives you which note and head back to the Smilebringer NPC.

Trade all three notes and he will ask you who gave which note. A good way to remember is before trading, scroll back and look at the chat log, then type /echo Name1-joy Name2-Thanks Name3-Gratitude. If you get the three name right, then you will get your Dream hat, if not, then you have to get the letters again.

After getting your hat, you can talk to the Smilebringer NPC and recieve another "Kiddie Gift". Equip your hat and go trade the gifts to the children of the town.

i just went to mog house and talked to Mog and he told me that he found a "Special Present" underneath my Windurst Tree. it's an EX/RARE item that can be used. i'm bout to step outta my moggy and check it out^^

Okay I have talked to moogle, then talked to the guy in the hat by the West Gate in Windy who gave me a present, I found the girl infront of the hat shop who gave me a letter, now what??? Please help Im getting very frustrated

Ok, i can confirm that the Dream Hat +1 is not obtained by collecting all 3 trees. I can confirm that the Dream Hat +1 is not obtained by bringing joy to the kiddies in each city. I think i accidentally tried to give a kiddy 2 presents once and it would not take the 2nd... so i can only assume that you must give each kid in each city a present in order to get the Dream Hat +1 (this is only an estimate). unfortunately, i don't not feel like taking the time to see if this is true or not. but if you do try it--the 1200g gifts should not be necessary or at least i would hope not.

i am satisfied with the trees and regular santa hat and do not wish to put forth that much time or $ to get a cookie dispensing one^^

i hope you enjoyed the event as much as i did and happy holidays.
