September 25 - Accounts Banned

We would like to report the termination today of multiple accounts held by players involved in the usage of third-party tools or cheats, or engaged in RMT (Real Money Trading) activities.

Based on the results of our investigation, around 7,050 PlayOnline accounts were terminated while around 1,030 accounts were temporarily suspended.
Additionally, we have increased the number of mass bannings against certain PlayOnline violations in order to prevent illegal acts.

Details of the violations are as follows:

- Usage of tools that allow enhanced character movement.
August 30, Approx. 80 cases
September 5, Approx. 330 cases
September 14, Approx. 250 cases
September 21, Approx. 210 cases

- Usage of tools that circumvent game mechanics with respect to the timing of ability use, etc. in certain areas or at points where Notorious Monsters appear.
September 21, Approx. 30 cases

- Using cheats to automatically repeat a particular action.
August 30, Approx. 1,150 cases
September 6, Approx. 1,500 cases
September 12, Approx. 1,400 cases
September 19, Approx. 1,200 cases

- Gil and item exchange for real world money.
September 25, Approx. 750 casess

- Instances of areas or monster monopolization.
August 30, Approx. 100 cases
September 6, Approx. 330 cases

- Usage of synthesis and auction houses for RMT activities.
September 25, Approx. 680 casess

- Accounts from people that were previously confirmed to have RMT connections, or that had violated the user agreements but re-subscribed to PlayOnline.
September 19, Approx. 70 cases

The termination of these accounts has led to the removal of approximately 2.6 billion gil from circulation.

We would like to remind players that as well as adversely affecting game balance, the use of third-party tools or cheats can also have consequences that are not immediately obvious, such as introducing damaging viruses, and comprising the security of private account details. Usage of third-party tools will not be tolerated within FINAL FANTASY XI, and we will continue to severely penalize any players found to be in violation of the PlayOnline Member Agreement.

As we continue to ensure a fun and balanced environment for FINAL FANTASY XI, we hope that our players enjoy the game as it was intended and take care to avoid involvement in activities that violate the PlayOnline Member Agreement.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.

RMT ban

It's great they are doing this don't get me wrong but, the problem I really see is that SE gets rid of gil accounts.... I see the same RMT farmers day in day out on my server they never get banned... Yeah SE is doing something about it SE is taking the RMT's gil stash and that's the problem... Hear me out... If SE removes the gil from the RMT's it hurts them yes but it just makes them work harder and longer to get the gil back... To take care of the problem loose the RMT farmers AND loose the gil holders problem solved... This will never happen SE will loose to much money... Until then I'm happy with what SE is doing...
Obituary Pages, yes please

I really don't care to hear about how many ppl were banned but I think it would be kinda sweet to see the character names and from which server he/she were from. Put it in that Tribune and maybe I'll start reading it again^^ Maybe the "special task force" could even go so far as to put a cause of death (i.e. <rmtname> bought the farm for good by the hands of Faust today)
SE is crazy!

people are talking about the huge chunk of change that has been taken out of the RMT economy, but what about SE's own pocket?
assuming it's $13-14/month per account and they deleted 7,050...that's roughly 90-100k/month and around 1M per year loss to them...i don't understand that from a business point of view.

i agree with most...the RMT problem is not what it used to be, and frankly as a crafter i got rather used to having them in the economy. i don't mind them in the low numbers they are now, but the use of game altering mods/hax definitely has to go.

I really see aerias' point. in that aspect.. it's crazy insane for them to take a loss like that. they must be really prying that this is helpful to us as a player base.

my apologies if i seemed like an ******* a few posts ago. I don't normally do that. take care guys!

lol these numbers do not seem to change at all each month. i dont really care about RMTs anymore. they are as a part of the game as the game itself. as long as people are willing to shell out 50---100$$ to make their game play easier then there will always be RMTs.

personally i tolorate less anyone that monopolizes a mob or changes game mechanics like speed hacks or repeat action mods. RMTs are simply trading money for time.

To all those you go all "giggly" when they see this stuff. Seriously, get a life. Your playing this game too much and need something more in your life. SE can ban/suspend whoever the crap they want too. But for crying out loud, do we really have to see the same report (basically) every stinking month. Stuff like this makes me just want to up and leave this game, heck if it werent for the Friends I play with I'd already be gone.

I wouldnt be surprised. Making/obtaining currency in that game is like 10 times easier then in FF11. WoW is also quite fun & enjoyable to play.

For the sake of the population that appreciates what SE does by banning/suspending suspicious and weary accounts because of related or even unrelated actions.. I say, stfu.

You were entitled to your opinion up until you began singling people out and referring to other's that you don't know as "crybabies" ..etc. Don't assume that people don't have a life because they're happy to see justice in an MMO. I think you're just worried because you are bored and you feel threatened. just maybe you and your buddies use some kind of 'tools' to play and you might find your account inactive via the next banning. Stop talking about WoW and go play it. Hope you'd enjoy gettin' ganked, I know I'd sure love to do it for ya.

On a side note: I noticed when I re-activated my content ID after a year and a half break that the prices on thing's were warmly welcome'd. I was glad to see this change. April of '06 a kriegsbeil was 6.5mil on carbuncle. Logged in this month .. bought one for around 600k. The changes I've noticed have been welcome'd by more then less of the current player base.

kudos, SE.

Oh my heck dude, get off. Threatened....hardly, I have NEVER used any kind of "tools" while playing FF11 and niether have any of the people I play with. Your obviously assuming that from what I wrote. I used crybabies as a metaphor to mean those who complain and get all worked up over this stuff, (hackers, rmt, bots etc). As you said at the begining, I'm entitled to personal opinion, and thats just what that is, an opinion, just like most of the posts on here. Also I wasnt talking about WoW neither as you put it. I was giving my own response to what someone else wrote about WoW. If you like it so much ok, that for you to like. Not everyone has to feel the same as you. And If I dont like seeing the same text (basically) every single month thats for me. What I dont like is how the GBH have ruined the good camp spots in FF11. Its not a fair balance. SE can do all this stuff to control economy movemtn but theres one thing that can be controlled by them, and thats players themselves. Those who sell stuff for high prices that are outrageous, granted though its not many but they are there. And its SE too for having NPC items selling for high amounts. So play as you want to play, and enjoy it in your own way, we all will. But dont assume because of opinion that someone is a tool user because of what they write.
Hm..

Lol this is funny.

Firstly Frankenberry, WoW sucks.

Secondly, I agree with the majority here. What SE is doing is a VERY good thing, and the general population welcomes what they're doing and their notification. This notification signals that they still in essence, "caring" about the community and the game's economy.

Persopnally I believe that FFXI has a pretty decent economy. Coming from playing WoW for countless months, the economy is a lot more associable and challenging in FFXI. Think about it, money supply increases substantially in WoW while arguably, FFXI has very limited money supply increase. Having a lot of gil feels a lot better than having a lot of gold IMHO.

Overall, yes, as a clean citizen of Vana'diel, there is this good 'fuzzy' feeling when I read SE's notifications on their police work. ;)

Thirdly, dude calm down about people's assumptions. You are assuming a lot yourself!? You're arguing about such a trivial thing... -_- it's just a brief little announcement...

Oh and lastly, did I mention, WoW sucks?

EDIT: woops grammar mistake

I think it's great we get updates like this every month letting us know that SE is looking out for us. It makes me feel secure. Well, maybe not secure, but it's still nice to know that those you use cheats are not to be tolerated. As for the guy who posted before me. If you want to up and quit because of updates like this, then I say go for it. I think it's pretty absurd to quit because SE is letting you know that they are helping to make the playing field level for everyone. Seriously, you don't even have to read the damn things. If you really don't like them, don't read them.
Keep it up SE

Absurd? Dude its a VIDEO GAME. Quiting isnt that of a big deal, at the most it saves me a monthly fee. The absurd part I guess would be that I wouldnt be playing with my online friends when they are still playing themselves. And your right I dont have to read them, and frankly speaking I shouldnt since its basically the same thing nearly word for word with only specific chg to the detail. Doesnt mean I cant stop seeing the title on the announcement bar @_@.
Whatever as Usual

I'm glad to see SE banning the RMT's, but come on not having FFXI windowed for PC users...god forbid I'm trying to do something else while playing FFXI. Also, did anyone notice how SE has no numbers, only dates, on all those charts? They give us not enough info to make heads or tails out of their charts, for all we know they /randomly banned 7,050 accounts...I'm skeptical about SE bragging to us that they banned 7,050 accounts and its for the good of the community...Keep up with banning the /random names, and booting the fish bots STFU.. Special Task Force Unit.... XD

true, but the total number of fishbots is dwindling each time.
They keep coming back, since they need gil to sell, but prices on gil keep going up, supply keeps going down.. it just doesn't pay to put more bots in the field if they don't sell the gil before the ban stick lands.

Soon, only a handfull of RMT remain that sell FFXI gil, and then SE sends in the Goblin Lawyers to finish them all off!

It's a dark day for RMT when employees playing in their free time make more gil for themselves then during their working hours for the market...

2.6 billion gil.. that's about $130.000 gone(interesting detail, IGE doesn't give discounts anymore for high volumes... $50 per dynamis run.. I'm amazed people even bother to buy gil at those prices, lol...)

Found an interesting history graph on RMT gil prices for FFXI over the last year:
http://www.gamepricewatcher.com/ffxi
Notice how gil keeps getting more and more expensive? From $20 to $50... the STF is doing a good job ;)

Using IGE as your example(for Asura):
1 Million Gil = $49.83
x50
50 Million Gil = $2,491.50
x20
1 Billion Gil = $49,830.00
x2.6
2.6 Billion Gil = $129,558.00

Approx. $129k has been removed from RMT wallets. If their profit is more than this (which I assume it is) then they will not stop their actions and will just keep the cycle going.

That is a large chunk of change though....If they deleted all their FFXI accounts and moved to WoW, I think everyone would be happier (except WoW, but who cares about them?

On a side note: If you can get 2.6 billion gil for $130, can you send me the link? Daddy needs a new pair of armor!

Actually, in some places (namely Europe), commas and periods are switched, so 1,000.23 here would look like 1.000,23 there, just pointing that out.

On topic: good to see that SE is keeping up their promise to continue banning RMT. 3 cheers for the special task force!!!

Very well, I stand corrected. Sorry :D
Should have noticed the .000 at the end instead of the usual .00

I wonder how much money the RMT groups would have to lose for them to quit trying to cash in on FFXI and move on to something else.
Nice work!
