WoW Housing not coming in the Near Future

Nethaera has spoken!
We have women on the development team as well as in many other departments.

Player housing is something that may happen in the future but there are no plans for it just yet. Good try though! If I had a house in game, it would just be crammed full o f weapons with maybe one throw rug so I didn't look like I didn't care about how it looked completely. ;)
While WoW housing was indeed planned at one time early in the process, it is no more, and apparently, never will be, if current plans do not change.

Sofar i haven't seen big desolate places in WoW. It's a game which is very well tought through in my opinion. I have now been playing the game for a week and I've got a lvl 46 hunter, 10 rogue, 12 shaman, 10 warlock.

The places that I've been to sofar don't seem to have room for housing, unless the game developers would come with options as chopping trees (landclearing), tunneling etc. This would mean they would have to introduce all new craft schools.

In this game it isn't planned such that you can play each and every school. So unless there would be a way that there would be a group of hired NPC's to which you would be bringing a certain amount of resources each time to build your structure and to get everything paid for I don't see how ir could fit into this game play.

The amount of resources would be so many that in a way there should be made a receipe in which players could add larger amounts of resources into for example a box which when filled up can be turned in to the NPC.

In a way this would be a quest the NPC gives you. Upon returning the box the structure will be build.

I think housing would be a good idea. I played Star Wars Galaxies for years, and there was whole stretches of land where it was empty and desolate. Seeing little groups of houses sprouting up kinda made it feel more... lived in, as if it wasn't just people running around and logging off in Inns, but actually building a place to live. Kinda humanised it.

If they can find a way to make it work in WoW, then I'm all for it.
Guild Huts

I think having guild huts would be more fun.

A hallway to display trophies as a way to showcase guild achievements and a customisable private room for guild meetings.

Except that...

Except that housing was already planned!

[GilS.PR] What are the plans for Housing in the World of Warcraft?

[Katricia] Player housing will not be available until after World of Warcraft has been released. Our plan is to add player housing in a future live update or expansion. Our current idea (which could change) is to extend the cities to have player housing neighborhoods. For example, in the canal area of Stormwind players can see a blue instance portal behind a large portcullis; this is the entrance to the player housing neighborhood in Stormwind.

When will we get housing? When WoW was in beta, it was indicated there would be housing in the future, yet here we are over a year after release and there is not even a hint of when we will get housing.- Deborah Dietrich on the Zul'Jin server

A. Housing for players and guilds alike is a feature we've always been interested in pursuing. Though we don't currently have plans to include these features in the Burning Crusade, we've certainly not abandoned our hope to include housing in the game sometime in the future.

i dont think housing would be a good idea in wow unless you cant get a house until lvl 60 or something. plus this is warcraft, not elder scrolls. if you want a house go buy Oblivion. then you can be a dark elf and run around stealing things to put in your house. like books for your bookshelf candles on your table and all sorts of other ****. inns work for me in this game

This is a very immature way of looking at the issue of housing.

Research and other MMO games have confirmed that housing is the most coveted prize of MMORPGs.

Ultima Online, the flagship of MMOs, had housing.

Dark Age of Camelot introduced housing, but did not want to destroy the landscape - so they made it an extra zone.

Star Wars Galaxies had LOADs of player-created areas, even whole cities.

Lord of the Rings Online followed DAoC's concept: keeping the landscape intact by creating a seperate "zoning" area for housing.

World of Warcraft can do the same exact thing if they desired. In fact, I am surprised that WoW developers - while creating the game more and more geared toward casual play - has not yet implemented housing. Housing is mostly for the casual players, to which every patch, every update, and every expansion i geared toward appealing.

With all the "zoning" present in World of Warcraft (i.e., instances); this should not be an issue at all. You would have to have seperate zones though for Horde and Alliance.

Housing in ultima online is what killed the expierence for me in that game, it got ridiculous weaving through all the freagin houses to fight things or get somewhere. Houses in a town good idea, houses everywhere not a good idea.

Well sorry there, Joe. Your opinion is probably in the minority there. LOTS of people like the idea of player housing, and several other games already have it, and make it work fairly well. Some people play WoW to be social, and having a house where you could invite all your friends for a party after a long raid.. that would be a lot of fun!

Oh yeah, not to mention... Housing in MMOs actually existed before Morrowind AND Oblivion. So, um, yeah... think before you type?
