Perilous News from the Frozen North and the Swampy South
The servants bell rang, dancing on a slender rope that was being tugged from a pull sash in the far corner of one of the finer dwellings in the open city of Freeport.
"Coming, Mastha" slurred Derug the housekeeper as he lumbered along the candlelit halls toward the Wizard's chambers and the source of the ringing bell. Opening the door slowly, Derug entered the circular room littered with tomes, vials and all manner of wizardly paraphernalia.
"You rannng, Mastha?" asked Derug, his placid face and rheumy eyes gazing on the robed form occupying the chamber.
The robed form that is the Master Wizard responded with a simple wave of the hand toward the mid sized cauldron on the far wall. Derug nodded imperceptibly and moved back down the hall to gather the wood and fresh water that were always required when the master worked his spells with the cauldron.
The robed form gave no heed to Derug's activities, instead pouring over the two different letters that currently occupied the highest perch on the cluttered worktable at which the master sat. One letter detailed the movements of ice goblins, including the recently arrived goblin evoker, Relk Icemapper, along with other, even more formidable creatures, gathering into the frozen citadel of Permafrost. The other letter was more vague; a report from an informant passing through the Hamlet of Blackwater of disturbances plaguing the inhabitants in that region. Livestock and travelers going missing - or worse, found half mangled at the swamps edge. Both matters would take consideration and investigation. This would delay the planned research into the elven ruins of Takish`Hiz, but so be it.
As the master stood, he surveyed the dry wood banking the base of the cauldron and the water sloshing softly within its crusted open sides. Nodding imperceptibly to Derug, he dismissed him and strode to the shelves to do whatever it is that wizards do...
(ooc: High level content continues apace for the update scheduled for Tuesday, April 15th ~ that also includes fishing, among other things. After that, further updates in April wear away the sands enshrouding Takish`Hiz and give you your own reasons for elven research.)
