December Version Update Preview

With the release of each version update, Vana'diel continues its transformation into an ever more adventurer-friendly realm. In staying true to this tradition, the development team is working hard on a host of adjustments and additions that will allow our players to focus on what they do best: adventuring!

Chariot, Empress, and Emperor Bands

To date, recharging these items required that adventurers call upon guard NPCs located within designated conquest areas and towns. Depending on their current job level, however, adventurers may find these areas to be a considerable time and distance away from their current base of operation. To address this inconvenience, West Aht Urhgan and Past Vana'diel are scheduled to be added to the list of rechargeable locations for the bands. The price of the service in these new locations will be consistent with that of existing areas.

Treasure Coffers and Chests

That these mysterious containers house an assortment of highly sought-after items such as artifacts and maps is no secret. Such is their popularity among adventurers that those who seek them wishing to acquire the aforementioned items are often left frustrated by others who have different spoils, namely miscellaneous items and gil, in mind. The December version update will see the respawn time for coffers and chests significantly cut specifically for those in the hunt for items such as artifacts and maps.

Jeuno

Recent adventurer lifestyle-related improvements made to town areas have focused mainly on the three nations. In light of current adventuring trends in Aht Urhgan and the recent influx of new adventurers, the spotlight has been cast once more upon Jeuno. Adventurers can look forward to the following changes during their visits to the duchy following the December version update:
- The sales tax imposed on bazaars will be abolished in all areas of the duchy.
- Teleportation to Aht Urhgan Whitegate will be available for mercenaries via the Salaheem's Sentinels representative NPC in Upper Jeuno

way to go SE. Makes things a little easier for the casual player.
If you don't like it, there's always the door for you.
my problem

my only problem with this is someone will start when this update takes place and they will have no idea how ffxi works get lvl 30 and think there the master of ffxi and get everyone in there party killed :(

I also hate that grampa's thing, but it's not what I meant. I still play this game and I want it to keep being fun and entertaining for me, not a boring warp-and-kill arcade game.

I don't care if others have it easier than I had. Actually, I haven't got to high-end game yet, but I want to get to it the way it's meant: working hard!

Anyways, these changes they want to make are not that bad, but if they keep bringing that kind of contents, they may ruin the game for some of us. I mean, we all like the system as it is, or we wouldn't be playing the game. Some changes are welcomed, but changing the gameplay is quite risky, I think.

Coffer/Chest Respawn times.
# Nov 27 2008 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
I think that the coffers will only respawn faster if you open them for quest/maps. Otherwise RMT would start putting mules at the coffer pops with stacks of tools just for Gil pops.

.... And as for those that are complaining that they are making the game too easy..

I've been here since the N/A release and imho this game could use a bit of easiness.
There is no sense in whining about the fact you had it harder "back in the day".

Your time is better spent taking pride in the fact that it was more challenging when you did it, instead of resenting those that can do it now...

I'm sick of that grandfather mentality of "I used to walk to school in seven feet of snow, uphill... both ways, you kids have it so easy"

This game is meant for having fun, kudos to SE for starting to make that more of a priorty.

When do they make an NPC that we trade a earth crystal too that gives us automatic 75 too?

I mean lets face it taking a char from 1 to 75 is just not easy enough, it takes time! Oh sure we don't need to buy food anymore, we don't need to level up our weapons, D weapons are just fine these days it seems… Hell I know I love partying along side Ninja dancers that think they are holding hate in the 30's.

I just don't think it's fair that I can't be 75 next week! Curing is curing and that's all a whm does anyway, not like I need to "learn" how to "play" the job.

I think all this "SPED" game play rocks! (special education for those of you who can't grasp the acronym and recognize the sarcasm in this post).

You know I had to start over and to get my 50 cap broken I actually had to walk to 4 different places and kill 4 YES 4!!!! entire mobs to get the items! (anyone playing this game long enough are laughing atm).

BAH!

warp my jobs to 75 already.
Where's the challenge?

These are the kind of things that made me leave EverQuest many years ago.

In the first years of that game, it'd take hours to travel from one edge of the world map to the opposite trying hard to not get killed on the way. And it's a quite old game. Then, an expansion appears that gave players the chance to teleport in a few minutes to almost everywhere... Boring, I say! They also made ships disappear and put teleporter gnomes instead... Just silly! And, of course, lots of contents and dungeons for high-end players, forgeting about those of us that are on our way there.

Come on, that's not the way to do things. We need new and thrilling or fun contents, not ways to make our virtual lifes easier... If we wanted an arcade MMORPG we would be playing WoW, killing hundreds of things in a minute and riding flying mounts to wherever we want...

Now all we need is a graphics overhaul. Thats about the most needed thing I can think of to keep this game going. I know at least two of the major MMOs have done this (EvE Online and WoW) recently, and probably many others. FFXI is wayy overdue for one in my humble opinion.
jueno > white gate
# Nov 24 2008 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
I always liked Jueno. I've kept my hp in White Gate since I arrived there for the first time. Now I'll finally have a reason to change it. Jueno was the hot spot.. almost became Tavnazian Safehold but white gate took over. Definitely glad to see Jueno will most likely rule once more.
I actually make decent money off chests/coffers. This will definitely help out when the key's are dropping like gravity.
And I don't use exp bands >.>p
Change

I have been playing FFXI since it came out in NA. Some of the updates are taking away from what FFXI was always about. Reset in coffer pop times is lame they are making af hunts to easy they might as well just give us af then. warps from Jeuno no big deal since they already had that. Taxes were put on for a reason for inflation now that prices are back down they are going take them off prices will just go back up. They need to leave the challenging parts for FFXI alone since thats what makes it FFXI. This game was never meant to be supper easy.

Are we seriously going to have to wait for a future update for them to incorporate a warp npc from Jeuno to the home nations?! I carry around tons of travel gear (warp cudels, rings, scrolls, etc.) so it's no big deal, but doesn't it just seem like a pain not to be able to go to your home nation from there? I guess we can wait another year and they will add that option, then another year and we will get a warp from home nation to jeuno.

I'm glad to see something... i suppose. :-/

I'd dig the coffer repop in the past, but 7 AF Sets later and every coffer map in the game obtained already just reinforces to me how far behind SE is on game design and evolution by -finally- coming up with some basic solutions to some old problems and promoting them as "wonderous new things."

/tsk /tsk /tsk

Lern to xpand .. and gtfo your island, it smells like cheese.. and not the good kind.

Agree and reinforces my statement earlier. Alot of this should have addressed a long time ago, as early as ToAU imho. Travel between Jeuno and Whitegate should have been addressed in the WoG release. Removing tax from Bazaar within Jeuno is placed decent enough. Could have been removed in the past but not a biggie. But S/E is a little slow when it comes to things.

But this can be answered by fear. Fear as if they start making things easier that the game will lose its "time-sink" design and they will lose accounts sooner then they want :)

They need to make them go faster or add another airship between each city and Jeuno. So in other words, while one is in Jeuno the other is in Bastok. I find it hard to believe the role playing part of the game that in a world with so much magic and cities like Jeuno that they can't build more airships... for travel purposes.

Everything, so far, seems nice. So far nothing breath taking, ya know? Making travel easier/effecient in this game that is this old is always a plus.

Reduced coffer/treasure chest respawn time has been way over due. Something that should been handled in ToAU release, imho. Good to see Jeuno is getting some attention. I have always like that place better than Whitegate. Layout seems better :)

Hopefully they have something big coming our way.
Sounds good so far

Not to mention Jeuno has more room in terms of having four auction houses and they are all spread out unlike the one and only one auction house at Whitegate. I rarely had lag trouble in this game near an AH even when Jeuno was the center of everything before ToAU came out. But every time I need to go to the Whitegate AH... I dread it because I just know 40+ people are packed in that one spot.

About time no sales tax for bazaar and Jueno tele to WG! I knew eventually they'd allow you to recharge rings using other means sooner or later, but the respawn times being cut is very awesome! It may cause RMT to camp these again or others.

I like the shortened spawn times on coffers, that'll be a HUGE help. Rarely do I do AF hunts alone, almost always have a party of people needing keys and coffers and as a result, it's usually an all-night affair of waiting.
Hurray!

Perfect updates so far. Nice teleportation adds and the sales tax update should of been abolished along time ago. The coffer and chest update will be very helpful for map hunting and artifact gathering. Thank You Square Enix. Now give the respected jobs better job abilities NIN, RDM, and WHM.

Maybe they will grow a few points of INT and MND and minimize retarded timesink. I get it, they want us to play the game as long as possible, and make sure that everything takes FOREVER to do, but certain aspect of the game can use LESS timesink. I am glad they finally gets the idea that the general public wants to ENJOY the game, not WAITING to play the game. Good effort overall and I cannot wait to find out the real update, I hope it is something awesome. I don't need endgame updates, just make the overall experience better, faster and way more enjoyable, and yes that means way much easier to solo and duo.
