Version Update Sneak Peek!

With the July update only a few days away, the anticipation and speculation are at an all-time high. As a teaser to what all we can expect next week, Square Enix has announced three new additions and tweaks to the lucrative venture of crafting. From the creation of new bells and the expansion of the octaves to upgrades to the Ebisu rod, synthing will never be the same again.

Discuss on the Zam Forums!

From Playonline.com:

In addition to the hoards of adjustments and new content promised thus far, the fast-approaching July version update will boast numerous overall improvements including an upgrade to the /bell command added this past April and scrumptious new synthesis recipes that will leave streets drenched in adventurer drool.

More Bells and Whistles for the /bell Command!

The /bell command added in the April version update will be expanded to allow two full octaves, including sharp and flat notes, to be played. From full-scale hand bell orchestras at Vana'dielian weddings to solo performances of your favorite tunes on street corners, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!

Enhanced Ebisu Fishing Rods!

The ebisu fishing rod, looked upon by many as the mythic weapon of the angler community, is set to be on the receiving end of a potent upgrade. From the July version update onwards, wielders of this mighty king among fishing rods can expect an even bigger haul after a day at their favorite fishing spot.

Curry Favor with Curry Buns!

In response to popular demand from fans at the official 2008 festival event in Japan, it is with great pleasure that we announce "curry buns" as one of the latest additions to the diverse food synthesis menu. Be sure to pack a few in your gobbiebag before you head off on that next big adventure!

But why so many ppl are getting annoyed by this, calling SE Failure's makes no sence to me. News of the major parts of this update have already been realeased, this is just a final bit of extra's to complete it. Yes, nobody really cares about half the **** they have just stated, but to call SE failures for carrying on to release content for a game thats 'nearly dead' is stupid.

Even with the release of SE's new ff game, ffxi will still go on for years, half or more ppl might leave, that'll just mean servers will get combined. SE have said they will continue to release content for ffxi while ppl want to play it, and imo, thats great. If they stopped, then ffxi really would die out. Maybe thats what many of you want though?

On a sidenote:

I think i'll quite enjoy composing macro /bell songs, something to do while waiting for the pty to form, or the ??? to reapear, or the next Behemoth window.

slow down

ok ppl slow down. you guys do get they have announced they are coming out with a new MMORPG, so why would they start adding huge content into a game that is gonna be almost dead when the new one comes out. new games take ppl away from older ones...did you guys not notice it when WoW came out and how many ppl left FF11 then? funny when ppl cry about new add-ons being soo small and time wasteing...do you not see the 100's of ppl that do the holiday events for days!!!every year!!!for ****!

I don't think anyone cares about these things being updated. I just think it feels like a slap in the face that they announce it like it is something significant. If they had just said nothing about it and then we got it in the update, nobody would be upset.
Seriously?

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 17 2009 at 11:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do I have to repeat myself. STOP expection too much from an update. You people need to really step back and look at the larger picture. If SE did everything you wanted all at once, the game would have problems again. I know most of you are new to the game. I remember all too well when they made a large update to the game and made alot of problems with the overall game system. AH was serchs failed alot, you couldn't even look things up. SE even made a point that they did too much too fast and it didn't help the problem at all. So before you make a complaint about the way SE does an update, stop and think a little. I do like the idea of making this game a little more comfortable to play, the little things do count. BUT.... I do understand what you are trying to say and to be blunt about it. YOU'RE ASKING FOR TOO MUCH . there's only so much they can do at one time. The more you get your hopes up the more you're just setting yourself up for a fall. As the saying goes, "be thankful for what you get, you could be getting nothing at all."

after these nigh-pointless mini expansions, i expect a full game experience changing expansion for a reasonable and humble 19.99 price point.
and also intriguing story lines with intriguing rewards.

you guys are acting like this is a big part about the update. these are the little things they are adding to the update not the only things. this shows that they still care about this game. if they just put out 3 add-ons with just gear wouldnt you think they are giving us one big thing so you dont quit before the new FF mmo is out? sorry your fave job didnt get a new ability.

Why does everyone feel that an update has to be game changing to = win? Or that jobs have to be adjusted every update? Its the little things that matter in an eternally-long game. Little fun things, such as /bell or /dance don't change the game, but they do add a little flair to the game we already know and love.

It's more the idea that they are using this relatively useless information as a "Sneak Peek" at the update. Normally, a sneak peek should be something exciting. Watch any movie trailer, that's a sneak peek. It's supposed to be exciting, enticing, and get you excited.

Somehow, being able to ring bells better, fish better with a nearly impossible to obtain fishing rod, and eating their new balls doesn't exactly fill me with excitement.

If they labelled this, say, as just a miscellaneous update, our reaction wouldn't be so venomous.

Also, keep in mind some devs had to waste time they could have used on other items to add those bell items...
