Confirmed Case of Swine Flu @ PAX

According to Kotaku, PAX officials have confirmed a case of the H1N1 flu virus (more commonly known as "Swine Flu") at PAX. Due to the size of the event and the sheer nature of shoulder to shoulder walking traffic at conventions, it's entirely possible that this years Penny Arcade Expo was in fact a breeding ground for the virus.

Moments ago, Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo advise anyone who attended PAX that now has a confirmed case of Swine Flu to email him with your flight information. It's important to understand that while we refuse to jump on the "Swine Flu will turn us into Zombies" bandwagon, this can be a serious ailment for some and it's our responsibility to get the information out there. If you were at PAX over the weekend and have any symptoms, which include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue -- please seek medical advice/attention immediately.

Update (9/08/09 @ 19:45): We've just been getting reports all day about #paxflu sicknesses but we've just received notification that Matt Lefferts of Runic Games has tested positive for the virus. According to our source at Runic, the infected employee feels worse than he ever has before and started feeling sick on Sunday.

I have been playing the Open Beta for Aion this week and there is a LARGE legion {read Guild} on my server that is named "Swine Flu" and Aion also went to PAX as was heavily reported at the Aion website.

Think there is a diabolical conspiracy here?

I just got over H1N1. It's basically just a flu, but I was unable to do anything for a week, so it did hit a bit harder. Heavy body aches, extreme headache, coughing, sneezing, runny nose. Possibly vomiting, but it's rare, didn't happen to me.

The main risk is people getting it that have a pre-existing condition that weakens your immune system, like cancer, or bronchitis, or anything fairly serious, ammonia. The other risk is that it weakens your lung tissue, and it makes you much more susceptible to catch something else WHILE you have it, like ammonia, bronchitis, etc, and then it could get very bad. Also, it's very contagious.

I just stayed home and had soup for a week, got over it. Ibuprofen for the fever, Tylenol PM for bed.

/immunity level up

This is the Nerd Flu though. We're probably going to turn into Zombies ... or Orcs.

In less than five minutes we'll reach the optimal altitude for missile deployment. H1N1 will be released into the atmosphere, ensuring COMPLETE PAX SATURATION.

Could've been a massive zombie outbreak, hell at least this time it was something that makes sure you stay dead. All in all I say we break even on this.
