Producer's Letter

Just saw this on the official site: EQOA Producer Letter Hello, It's been an exciting summer for EverQuest Online Adventures and there is more to come in the near future. In this Producer's Letter, we want to bring you up to date about exciting new features that are just around the corner. We'll also talk about some current events in the EQOA community and how we're working to make EQOA the best online gaming community. Within this month, if all goes well, we are planning on releasing the EQOA Auction system. The Auction system is the perfect complement to player Trade Skills. You'll be able to sell items through auctions and bid against other players for anything people are selling, anywhere across Norrath! The auction system also allows you to search for items by race, class, level, equipment type and many other parameters. You can even set a "buy now" price for your auctions! The transfer of auctioned items is handled instantly by the game server. If you win an item, it is instantly transferred from the seller's bank account to your bank account. We're very excited about this new feature and we think it will add new depth to the game's economy. Further ahead (after the Auction system) we are looking forward to the next two trade skills: Carpentry and Tailoring. These should add all-new avenues for character development and many great new items to the game. Since the release of EQOA, the game community has continued to grow and flourish. The development team is very interested in fostering this trend. It's very important for us to create an environment where players can enjoy the game with their friends without unpleasant distractions. The development team has been working with our Customer Service department to develop stronger policies for dealing with community issues that EQOA players have reported to us. Over the next few weeks, you will see strong action taken to enforce our community policies. We want to thank the EQOA community for reporting their community issues to Customer Service and the development team. The development of EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers is moving along very well. If you have been accepted to the public beta, you should expect to receive your beta disk within the next ten days. It's going to be an awesome time! For more information about EverQuest Online Adventures: Frontiers, check out http://eqoafrontiers.station.sony.com/. Thank you again for all of your feedback and support! Stay tuned for specifics about the Auction System update in the near future! Sincerely, Ben Bell Producer Sony Online Entertainment

Blacksmith costs

Well here is another suggestion, how about when a character reaches a 2000 faction with a city they get a discount on repair costs. Maybe a 20% cut or something, tanks are becoming fewer and fewer. While the improvement in caster classes might be a contributing factor to this I also think the expense of repairs is also playing a role in this. Just a thought..

Just a thought here, but with how expensive these skills are, maybe you can add some drops from tribal type mobs that assist with tradeskills. A smithing hammer / Jeweler kit which increases the chance of making items. Not a big increase in chance but just alittle something..

Hi peps... The auction system sounds very cool. I do still think that people will try to unfairly raise the prices. I think that there should be some kind of price controll. It should be based on need, the race/class/LvL of the Buyer or Seller. Lets say for example A warrior is selling A Healer wand that he does not need...A healer wants to buy this wand... Therefor the Healer should be given an affordable price...Now lets say that a warrior is selling a weapon the he/she can make use of...Therefore to whom ever is buying this weapon the price should be high....
This is just a thought it if does not happen I wont be unhappy at all...

Why not put something in the game where you could make food and drink that effect certain stats like str and sta. Like you do for weapons you could make food that raises you int or wisdome.

have you thought of perhaps, changing the thought if the day once in a while??? humm,, been the same thought for what a month now.. let's try creating a new thought for the day. humm

I do enjoy you'alls updates, when you post them.
it's 8/16/03 now and your last update was on the 13th. I keep cheaking for new info..

You all have been quite instramental in the advancement of my charictor, and for as many people I can give your web address to. About 40% of the players I have run accrost in the EQOA world already know of the existance of this web sight. But whenever I find a player in need of help, usualy something basic, I will give them your web address. :) so the word spreads like the evil running rampid. ha ha. big up to you all down there in Allakhazam zone.

Oooo, is it possibly for you all to distinguish the quest, on the list of quest "by class", if the quest are for "good" or "evil" types. please, I have gotten killed over this little problem. ha ha, not easy being a Delf Necro. I find I have a lot of insidential enemies. "I guess they didn't like my face!", one more thing; can you all list more of the Necro rewords to the quest?, I find that often this class is under-rated and overlooked. Most of the "post" I have found are not related to what I am doing as a Necro. But I have been able to decifier what has been written, and apply it to my charictor. And most of the "post" are not posted by Necros, and not often do I find the rewords listing for my class for compleation of a quest??? whyz that??

Ooo, a comment; "only 86 possible quest for my class is weaker than 7 days" Mod.

here is a possible new thought of the day, "thanks to all of you who give free Buff's when your waiting on your groups" :)

Thank's for the kind words about the site.

As for posting all the rewards and such, there isn't much I can about that unless someone send me an email with the item stats. I personally don't play a necro, I play a druid, and no offense, but I don't want to spend the time to get a 40th lvl necro just to get an item up on the page.

As for the TFTD, yea, I know it's old, if anyone has any suggestions, email then to me.

Another Idea
# Aug 15 2003 at 2:26 PM Rating: Default
Here's a thoght, why not make it to where players can run their own shops in Frontiers? They can add a business district in each city where players can buy and manage their own shops.Such as carts cost 1000 stands cost 2000 and big buildings such as the smithy buildings cost 5000t.And the poor people can always use the empty shop in Freeport next to the bank. Yes it is highly unlikely that this will happen on a PS2 game but, before Everquest was released the sheer thought of thousands of people all across the globe playing a single game together would have sounded farfetched. So basicly what I'm saying is if they pushed the limits as far as Everquest has gotten today, why not go even farther?
auction
# Aug 15 2003 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
My question is when auctioning will it just be by tunar or can u pay em in items too,and if so then how will they give a true price for that item and also what if the person selling doesnt want items,i too have not played EQPC and im just wondering if this is ANOTHER one of EQOA's dumb moves...

It will probably be Tunar only, but you can prolly ingame mail the person selling to see if they would take and item for item trade.

What exactly would this trade skill be used for? I have not played any version of EQ other than adventures, but I just don't see what you would be able to do with this skill. Can you build your own house, or have someone build you house to store your stuff? Are masons and general contractors next? Maybe I just need more sleep.

Isn't there a skill or option for boxes or something in EQ for the PC, where you can store more items in them? I dunno, I just remember a guy I know saying something about them, but maybe I'm off my rocker.

I believe when they say Carpentry they mean making bows and wooden weapons such as staffs and clubs. That would make sense as we can currently only make metal weapons.
RE: Carpentry????

as for your theory of bow's being made under carpentry, ummmm wouldn't that be bowyer/fletching,lol,im hoping iys somewhere along the lines of making yur own place, but i highly doubt it...I can only imagine everyone on server having a house, lol, would be very difficult for EQOA to deal w/ glitches...well anyways thats my opinion...

Here's something I have been pondering. To kinda put a kink in the system, why don't sony find a way to do this. The items we sell the Merchants, for example, say we sell Tempered BP to the merchant why don't they find a way to let the merchant re-sell that item as a store buy? Or something to that effect, just an idea. I am sure there is a way to make that work, plus it puts a damper on someone selling that same item for 100k tunar when the merchant has it for say 20k. Just something I have been thinking about.

Actually, my friend accidently sold his primary weapon to a vendor one time, and just out of curiosity went out of the SELL option and into the BUY screen ... saw his rare weapon and bought it back. I've never been able to do this, but he swears it's the truth. He's never played the EQ version and is fairly new to the PS2 game. He said he was at a weapon smithy when he did it. Has anybody else had a similar experience?

I think Bordael said something like that they were gonna do that at one time, but the coding would so dramatically different for the PS2 game they they opted to take it out, and another reason was that, who is gonna buy the vendor fodder anyways?
Mmmm...Vendor fodder
# Aug 18 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Good
Actuallly, buying vendor fodder, although not the most reliable, is the one of the cheapest forms of shopping. Items that normally sell for 100K plat in the bazzaar can sometimes be found for 10K plat on a vendor. I found many great items by just taking the time to check what had been sold to the merchants.

Vendor fodder is also great for lowbies just starting their EQPC expereince. One lvl 48's junk is another lvl 20's uber twink!

Thats how it was on the PC, if you accidently sold something to a vendor you could buy it back (sometimes youd have to buy 50 things in their buffer for it to come up, but at least you could). This was also nice for tradeskills, cause you could go to a vendor and buy all the crap you want that someone else didnt need.
Economic babble
# Aug 14 2003 at 8:32 AM Rating: Good
If you've played Star Wars Galaxies, than you have already seen the Auction system in effect. From what I can gather it sounds like the Bazaar Terminals from that game. It's definitely a beautiful thing because of the lack of WTS/WTB/WTT shouts. And prices will get over inflated by greedy people, but if players out there sell for lower prices, the high market will have to lower itself to be more competitive. And the economy/prices will vary from server to server depending on the community. Just my two tunar.
CAN'T WAIT!
# Aug 17 2003 at 2:55 AM Rating: Good
Oh jesus god, yes! I cannot freaking wait for the auction system. If I never hear another WTT, WTB, WTS again, it'll be soon enough.
Economy
# Aug 14 2003 at 8:25 AM Rating: Default
I know how hard it is to aquire the good items in eq i never could get them for a while because i never had a good guild :( But there is good means behind the auction system but i think it will still hurt the economy. My next question is Frontiers is it really goin to be compatiable with PC and how much will it cost if it is compatible i dont think i am goin to like that. But wut ever sony decides will have to do i guess ppl on pc would be ahead of the PS2 version when it came out. Will my character still carry over to frontiers from EQOA Thx for reading :)
RE: Economy
# Aug 14 2003 at 8:34 AM Rating: Good
yes you're character will carry of from EQOA to EQOA: Frontiers. It's the same exact game, just with more stuff. I don't mind it being on PC. It just means more, perhaps more seasoned but not higher level, players.
agree
# Aug 14 2003 at 7:33 AM Rating: Excellent
I agree with Haggan economy will go down the chutes and players who dont play as often wont be able to get higher priced items because of the inflated prices this happen in EQ for the PC and was really annoying and I wouldn't want to see it happen to this game.
You guys are all nuts
# Aug 18 2003 at 11:14 AM Rating: Good
Prices will inflate initally, but an auction system really jump-starts a server economy. For instance, if there are 5 people selling CVs, which one will sell first? The one offered for 50 million tunare, or the one for 900K? It's the same robe.

You watch, once the auction system gets going, prices are going to go down dramatically as people try to undercut their competitors.

As for the bazaar driving prices up in EQPC, you honestly have no idea what you are talking about. Sorry to be blunt, but the bazaar made prices stablize not hyper-inflate.

Not sure what will happen to the economy. At this point there really isn't much of one anyway, so I don't know how it could get any worse. I like the idea that over half of the shouts in FP, HP, and FW should be eliminated. You also have a much larger audience well selling, since shouts are limited to a relatively small region of the game.

As for over-inflation, it may happen, but if people really want to be rid of their items, then they will either lower the bid they are willing to accept, or they will have to keep it.

Can you bounce Tunar????
RE: sounds cool
# Aug 14 2003 at 11:03 AM Rating: Decent
the producers has already screwed up the economy. the trade skills take way to much tunar to lvl them and drinks costing so much im broke all the time. im a caster so no one lets me loot and if i do the boot me so i have to do a money run.whats worst is that im a mage and if i sell phase rings for 2k for 4 i get called some very bad names. and then im a lvl 38 mage so i have the earth pet that taunts and the tanks dont want to taunt off him because they say hes a pet so i can recast him, well my pet takes 900 power and a 1 min recast and they yell at me if im not casting enuf and if i dont have pet out there all the time and my pet dies almost every pull. so what im trying to say is i use drinks every 2 pulls so think about this drinks cost over 500 but lets just say 500. lets say we are out for a long grind say 50 pulls and i drink every other time so thats 25 drink. 25 x 500= 12500 tunar. boy i tell you mages got screwed over big time with these updates

but there is another thing if your pet is playing the role of the tank you should demand the tank share of the loot. they wont need it for repairs.
RE: sounds cool
# Aug 14 2003 at 3:28 PM Rating: Good
i like to look at all of people opinons and all and i didn't think it would make the prices go up i thought theyd go down, but i agree with anonymous if your not getting enuf loot than ***** ur group their jerks i tank some times and i always am sure to share with every one in my group casters and healrs alike and if they loot outa time or hog the loot i just askem to remeber thier not the only one in the group who needs money. well anywho do u think i am wrong in thinking that the action system will cause prices to go down EX. at auto actions u can get some nice cars for half the prices they should go for. but this is just my opinon
RE: sounds cool
# Aug 15 2003 at 5:08 PM Rating: Good
I agree that it has potential to lower prices. I for one give most of the rares I don't/can't use to friends first then passerbys (I ran around other day with pair of low level healer rare gloves trying to find someone to give them to). I for one plan on posting rares i don't give to friends, at really low prices in the auction system. I am tired of people running around shouting "400k for crystalline orb" The stupid thing only has 8 char, 8 int and 35 ac on it! I truly hope that the economy starts to flood with lots of cool stuff at a decent price.
If it becomes crazy one can always get rares the old fashioned way, kill something and hope your lucky!

There really is no way of telling how the auction system will affect EQOA's economy until it is released. I already believe that many prices are already over-inflated, especially considering the fact that most of the items were obtained by a lucky loot or lucky roll. But this would cetainly end the numerous shouts in the cities for people wanting to sell/trade/buy something. It should also end the seemingly endless negotiatons I seem to go through every time I want an item but believe the asking price is too high (I once tried to buy the level 17 side quest helmet for one of my Warrrior friends and the person selling it said he paid 35k for it and wanted at least more than that).

I didn't see this mentioned in the Producer's letter, but I would assume someone auctioning off an item could set a minimum price for it so that if no one bid higher than the minimum price than he or she would have the right not to sell it to the bidder. I would also be interested to know what happens if the highest bidder has a full bank. Either he or she would be given time to make room for the item, given an extra space in the bank (but once you withdrew any item, your bank space would return to normal) or may end up having an item deleted from their bank to make room for the auctioned item. I would presume the last choice would end in multiple angry letters to the GMs.

Sony didnt ***** up. You grp with people that suck is all. Believe me i like the fact you can buy most of what you need from vendors. IE food, EQPC in order to get the high end food you needed to know someone or get your skills up their to even have that Gnome burger, or Orc Pie. As to your looting problems. Leave the grp if they just wont share.
