Five Reasons You Should Try Fantasy Earth Zero

It's a Square-Enix game, it has 50 vs. 50 PvP and lets you conquer the world. Need some more?

3. A Fantasy World From Square Enix

The company who created the Final Fantasy series put their stamp of approval on this game, but the story and character development are at a minimum compared to the aforementioned epic franchise. But the flavor is still there. Each faction really stands out when compared to each other.

There're the Netzavare who live in a desolate and arid land, lead by their king, Huenkel, an axe-wielding Lion-man. Then there's the kingdom Gevrandia led by Lyle who hangs his crown from a dagger imbedded in his throne and the nation of Cesedria, who's leader is but a child queen. I found her a bit too comically sweet to follow into battle.

After creating a character you'll pledge allegiance to a faction, and you'll be able to see how many territories they currently own and what their win percentage is. Each faction leader is voiced by capable voice actors who admonish you and give advice during battles. If you're doing exceptionally well or badly the faction leaders may even single you out for advice or encouragement. The flavor of the world really makes your faction something worth fighting for, rather than just the "red team" or the "blue team."

4. Map-based World Conquering That Puts Risk to Shame

This has to be my favorite part of Fantasy Earth Zero. Every battle you fight earns you territory for your faction. So, instead of fighting for bragging rights alone, every time you crush the enemy, your kingdom gets one step closer to conquering your opponent's kingdom. It gives a really important, even crucial feel to every conflict.

The map is a cleverly designed set of faction owned islands in a ring, with the island of Ecetia in the center connecting them all. Naturally this middle island is where most of the fighting takes place. During my time in the game, control shifted from faction to faction on Ecetia, but you can imagine that if one faction got very organized, it could take over the entire map. Even better, each battleground that you can control is different, which makes them feel like a real places that you've conquered and also gives PvP battles variety.

5. A Chummy Community

You know, many MMOs have friendly communities, but I found my time in Fantasy Earth Zero to be especially cordial. The beginning tutorial is quite lacking, especially when compared with other MMOs. Menus are mazes and I could never find an arrow or map that would lead me in the right direction. The learning curve would have been extra rough without the help I received from the amiable gamers who inhabit the Fantasy Earth Zero world.

I had a guy who was gearing up for a 50 v. 50 PvP war take time to tell me how to resize my game screen to full size. Yes, that probably means I'm an idiot, but it also means he's a nice guy. I also had two veteran scouts teach me how to hit moving targets by leading them with an area effect arrow that stuns them and then finishing them off with a powerful direct arrow. They were like my Scout class Yodas. Overall, there're no better people to learn the ropes of a game from than players like Fantasy Earth Zero's community.
