League of Legends's new map, "Magma Chamber"
This map will focus more smaller, more tactical fights, and a lot of map awareness. Can you handle the heat?
I gotta say, I'm really excited for this new map! League of Legends fans around the world will be delighted to hear that the team is bringing in a new map, titled "Magma Chamber," which will feature some strategic, fast-paced 5v5 combat. In their press release, they note that while Magma Chamber does have the same capacity as Summoner's Rift (10 players total, 5v5), this new map will focus less on large team fights (like Summoner's Rift), but will instead emphasize "smaller, more tactical fights, map awareness and victory in specific lanes." They note that this will be accomplished via a "richer jungle" and "more isolated lanes that are difficult to switch between." As well, there will be new neutral minions with new buffs to give, in addition to further surprises.
So what does this mean for your average LoL-player? Well, look forward to a different meta-game to be employed in Magma Chamber, most notably the rise of stronger duo-champion lane combos, in addition to teams being able to move away from the standard "two tanks, two DPS, one support, lots of area-of-effect damage" mentality, and more into the realms of aggressive, mobile teams capable of multi-lane pushing. We'll just see how it all turns out in the end! You can read up on the official lore of Magma Dungeon after the jump!
"Deep within the obsidian mountain from which the Institute of War is sculpted lies the League’s most intense Field of Justice to date – the Magma Chamber. Before the time of the League, the Chamber was the heart of a powerful, but now dormant, volcano. Ancient magma flows cut out a gigantic cavernous room that the League has reshaped for its own purposes. This battle arena was built specifically to address the increasing number of disputes between Demacia and Noxus. It is one of the largest Fields of Justice found anywhere on Valoran. To that end, teleporting platforms provide champions with the ability to rapidly relocate to strategic points in the arena. The magic-infused stone and cooled magma that dominates the structure of the arena will force champions to work together more closely in pushing toward the enemy’s nexus. It will be harder for a champion to rely on their summoner to traverse hazards and obstacles. The League is preparing this Field of Justice to be the premier arena for its use; as such, a slew of new monsters and minions await champions in what will surely be their greatest challenge yet."
