New Blog Post Outlines Dye System in Guild Wars 2

Players won't be able to mix colors, but more than 400 colors will be available in the game.

The Guild Wars 2 blogs just keep coming! Last week, Tech Director Rick Ellis outlined the mobile and web apps that will give players an extended experience both in and out of the game. Now, Kristin Perry has written a detailed overview of the dye system in Guild Wars 2. It's an incredibly detailed post, so be sure to check it out.

The main difference with the dye system in Guild Wars 2 is that players will no longer be able to mix colors. Perry is currently creating all the colors you could possibly need: "I'm guessing that means over 400 colors, but we’ll see… I haven’t created them all yet!"

Keep reading after the jump for some of the other features of the Guild Wars 2 dye system.

  • Hues will change depending on material type (leather, metal, etc.)
  • Once you unlock a color, you can use it with every character on your account.
  • Colors are sortable by hue, temperature, or materials.
  • Armors have up to three dye areas per piece.
  • Races get their own starting palette to give them their own identities. For example, "this means a red color for a human may not look the same as a red color for a norn or charr."
  • Dyeable areas on new armor drops will have a set of basic neutral colors on them so they look good until you have a chance to dye them.
